While driving home tonight and listening to 610, I heard that Glen Rice said if the Rockets guards don't start passing the ball, he is going to demand it. I love it. This is the leadership you want from Rice. He said the statement more in context of Ming, but essentially meant for it to encompass everyone other than Cuttino, Stevie and Mooch. I couldn't agree with him more, and blast me if you will, I think this is something that needed to be said from within. For the last two years it has been said from outsiders, but if it doesn't come from within, you figure the team buys into the selfish guard play. What do you think?
This is the right forum. Isn't it? How did Rice sound when he said it? Was he frustrated or being playful, or what? I think it's good that he did. But it would be TERRIBLE if he got the ball a lot and missed a lot. That would destroy Francis' respect for his shot. Hopefully, Rice will score some and take the pressure off Francis and Mobley.
I dont blame Rice for jacking it up when he gets it. He knows if he passes it, he'll never see the ball again. Even Moochie Norris is a ball hog. Moochie freeking Norris. Sometimes he brings the ball over the line and shoots without making a single pass. That is incredible. Moochie freeking Norris.
Glen Rice - you are the man. It's about time somebody put there foot down and said something to those 2 lovers. Thank goodness.
He should be getting the ball. He's the best shooter on the team. I mean, the guy only plays 25-30 minutes as it is, let him shoot it. He wasn't brought here for his defense, he's here because he can flat-out shoot the ball.
I would like to agree with you that Rice is being a leader, but he has been known as a complainer on teams in the past and it has detracted from the weight of his words. I'm not saying he is wrong, I am just saying that the words are not as powerful because of his griping in the past (justified or not).
rice is too old and too slow to play inside game and post up, now he only can shot outside shoot, and i admit he is great at it, but rockets can rely on outside game, else it gonna be just like last season. but he point out a great point, rockets' guard is got to passing more to other players, more ball movement is the key!!!!!
Ok what's the whole story with Glen's wife? I never heard about it. And yeah, good job Glen, Steve can play amazing, but if he and Cat don't pass the ball we won't win more than 40
I'm not sure if it's leadership or just coincidence. Glen Rice has been complaining about not getting the ball enough since he was with the Lakers. A broken clock is right twice a day. Rice WAS a good shooter. It's not proven that he still IS a good shooter.
I have two points to make on this, and they may appear to contradict one another, but the truth is I can't decide which is my real opinion yet... 1) I agree that an in-house comment like this does seem to justify a lot of the external complaints about Steve,Cuttino, and Moochie. I agree with studdog that it was a point in their favour that no one on the team ever seemed to complain about them hogging the ball, and it could therefore have been thought of as by design, or what the players wanted...This might give a different picture, and if it is indicative of the feelings of other Rocket players, it needed to be said. 2) On the other hand, as Shot caller pointed out, you have to consider the source. Rice has been know for letting fly with the complaints about not getting the ball enough before, both in N.Y. and L.A., which was one of my concern about getting him here in the first place. He has been a model player so far, though, so maybe he deserves the benefit of the doubt....As I said, I really can't make my mind up....Either this is huge, and means a whole lot, or it's just another Gimme The Ball gripe from a man know to do just that.
I would love to see Rice make that kind of a demand, esp if he is healthy enouch to do something about it when he gets the ball. It's very cool to have a vet on the team. Hopefully he can be a positive influence. I have never really bought into the bad rep he supposedly has. Oh, and AB's Rice meeting story kicks ass!
I really don't care about his motvice. I'm just glad it was said. Who else is going to speak up? The 2nd year players? The rookies? Cato? And as Studogg said, it was more in reference to Ming. Rice is my hero!
I like it...We need someone to stand up and get salty like that...I hope it raises some ire and lights a fire under the guys on the team who ain't cutting the cheese thus far...
