Ladies and Gentlemen give it up for the RICE OWLS for making the championship series this weekend at the College World Series!!!! We will face the winner of Stanford/CS Fullerton this weekend. Our top two pitchers will be fresh for the starts. Rice defeated UT twice in the past three days to advance after defeating SW Missouri State on Saturday. HOOOOOOOT!!!
5-4 Rice. Was that Bill Buckner playing centerfield for the Horns? Congrats Rice! I just wish Rice and Texas were in different brackets. Neither team deserved to lose that one. They're the 2 best teams in the country right now IMO.
going 3-0 is huge. very huge. And CSF lost today. knock on wood, but you can't hope for a better scenario with Neimann and Townsend. Not to mention Humber showed some stuff, which should relieve some jitter if we need him to go in a rubber game. Aardsma and Josh looked exceptional, as usual. so what's up with Herce...he really won't pitch at all? I have to call out Ruchti...though. Man, was an amazing game. Next to pitching, nothing excites me more than catcher. It is easy to see what makes Graham so successful all the time. He knows how to land the 1 and 2.
That was the best baseball game ever played. Ever. Reasons why it was great: 1) Wayne Graham finally tastes victory in Omaha, after some very disappointing prior trips. To see Wayne celebrating after the game was fantastic. No one deserves it more than him. He has resurrected a dead program, with high academic standards and no attractive women at the school. What he has done is nothing short of brilliant. 2) Rice reverses its streak of horrendous luck in the CWS. I truly believe that Rice has sent excellent teams to the CWS in past years, but have suffered from almost unthinkably bad luck. It is nice to get some of the balls to drop in this year and for players like Herce (who I feel the best for), Austin Davis, Kolkhorst, Sinisi, Cruz, Aarsdma and the rest of the pitching staff to taste victory. To do it over an in-state rival is just icing on the burnt orange cake. 3) Tim Moss makes the critical error in the ninth. To put this in perspective, Tim Moss, who with the help of others, assaulted a man and then ran from police had his court trial was *conveniently* moved back to July because it would have occurred during this week. Thanks judge for moving it back and allowing Tim to work his mojo in the ninth. BOOTSY MOSS. OOPS! 4) Huston Street chokes with the game on the line. The player who was supposedly untouchable has now blown a save versus Rice this year, and also lost a game versus Rice (this game). That stunned look on his face as the ball went under the centerfielder's glove was priceless. Oh and I believe I saw James Street crying in the stands. I know I saw several Horns crying in the dugout. CHOKE CITY STREET is his new name (credit to Sir Charles) University of Texas Baseball? ..... CASE CLOSED
so, has anyone been going to watch games at the Owl Room? George W, III has been organizing that. seriously, that's his name.
man, I just received about $200 in long distance calls from 3 different states and 2 foreign countries. The last half an inning was talking to Spain!! this is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO great!!! thanks for the separate thread. This really deserves celebration without looking back!!!! So, who noticed Graham just giving Humber and Josh no slack. "Is that all you got?!! If that's all you got, I'll get someone else out here." You know he was going deep for that rest, and he meant business. man, Ruchti was just silly awesome!
Wow, this is like a mini Rice reunion. That was a great game. Long, but definitely enjoyable because it was a great mix of timely hitting with good pitching... And just enough bad calls to where either team would whine afterwards. Go Rice! hehe
Was interesting watching the highlights on SportsCenter of the three consecutive hit batters. I was pulling for Texas since they beat FSU, but with them out, I must say I don't really care about the CWS anymore.
No whining here. Rice got the short end of the blown calls. The Hollimon call really did cost them a run; the other call just gave UT another chance. No guarantee they get a hit off of Aardsma. Better team won.
Good job by the Owls. Even better they won today so they wouldn't have to use up Niemann. The question is if there is a Game 3, does Rice start Humber or Baker? Neither had their best stuff. But Baker didn't fall off the deep end like Humber did... Being a Memorial alum, I hope they would turn to Baker if a Game 3 occured. Hopefully, Rice finishes the Titans in 2.
I'll give you credit for taking the loss like a man, and being the first UT fan to post on this thread.
It was a pretty much a win/win situation for people in texas, its pretty exciting watching college baseball, nothing better to do when its freaking raining in ohio all the time.
Congratulations to Rice. They should definitely win it all. Your new signature for the next 3 months will be:
