Not quite sure where you post this, but Rice has found their replacement for Todd Graham.

It sucks for all us Bobcats because he's a very good coach, very good recruiter, and overall good man. We'll miss him, but I hope he does well at Rice.

Berman's Scoop: Rice Chooses Texas State Coach to Replace Graham
David Bailiff to be New Football Coach

FOX 26 Sports has learned Rice University will name Texas State coach David Bailiff as the Owls new head coach.

The school has called a press conference for 11 a.m. Friday where Bailiff is expected to be officially announced.

"There will be no comment until the news conference," Rice athletic director Chris Del Conte told FOX Thursday.

Bailiff, who was not available for comment, took over the Texas State program in 2004 after three years as an assistant coach at TCU.

In 2005, Bailiff led the Bobcats to the their first Southland Conference championship. Texas State then beat Georgia Southern and Cal Poly in the Division 1-AA playoffs before losing to Northern Iowa in the national semifinals.

The 48-year-old Bailiff replaces Todd Graham, who left after one year at Rice to become the coach at Tulsa.

Bailiff inherits a Rice program that in 2006 went to its first bowl game in 45 years. Rice was 7-6 last year, including a loss to Troy University in the New Orleans Bowl.

In 2006, Texas State went 5-6 in what was considered a rebuilding year for the Bobcats.

That is the definition of settleing. He did a decent job at SWT/TSU. Yes, he got them to the semis. He then proceeded to have a huge brain fart in the way he handled the last few minutes of the game and overtime. He said he'd do it again. This is a guy that plays not to lose.

Got nothing against the guy personally. In fact, he was special teams coach when my brother was the kicker there and was very good to him.

Good hire. He is a lot like Todd Graham. His TCU defenses were great. I heard they choose Bailiff over Larry Coker. If I were Rice, I would have hired Coker in a heartbeat. He won a national championship, I don't care if it was Butch Davis' players.

Rice wanted someone who they can keep long term. If Coker comes and does well, you know he's gone in a New York minute.

LOL - The guy is an ok coach but has ZERO stones.

Tie game....semifinals...... 1:26 left on the clock, ball at your own 25, all three of your timeouts left....and what does he do?

Kneels down and plays for overtime.

Weenie move by a weenie coach !!!

Team lost in OT on a turnover....BRILLIANT, and he basically told his team he had no faith in them.......

    WAY TO GO RICE !!

Depends on the personel. 2 years ago when we finished #4, we had a QB, Barrick Nealy (who transfered from UH) who was basically the I-AA version of Vince Young. 2,800 yards passing, 1,000 yards rushing. Overall the run and pass was balanced, about 3,000 yards each for the season. And we outscored our opponents 37 to 20 with over 400 yards of offense per game.

Last year the yardage and the scoring went way down. The playcalling was still pretty balanced.

I've heard good things about Bailiff. He's apparently well connected in the HS football ranks around the state. That's good news. Rice certainly needs help on the defensive side of the ball. Hopefully he can be of assistance there.

Didn't Rocketman95 go to Texas State? I can't remember if it was there or San Jacinto. Eh, either way, I'll say FACE.

So, what you're telling me is that David Bailiff will announce that he's leaving Rice for Grambling State on Saturday?

For what it's worth, I asked a guy on the team what the deal was with that ultimate wuss-out. He said Bailiff asked Barrick Nealy, then QB for the Bobcats, and Nealy preferred taking his chances in OT. It's a shame, because I was there prepared to storm the field with thousands of other 'Cats...maybe he had too much faith in his team.

As a coach he should have taken charge and looked Nealy in the eyes and said...."Son, let's win this together!"

They had been unstoppable in the 2nd half.....it was a BS chicken crap call....

No way you can talk long-term in the college ranks...Everyone leaves for the next opportunity...

If Coker was available, how do you not take someone like that...

He won't stay. If Patterson leaves TCU next year, I bet you Baliff will be top on their list and he won't hesitate to go back to there.
