I went for an supposed interview and the guy gave me a bunch of crap, long story short...he was having open invites for interviews ,and I even got an offer the day before from another person at the same place...He told me they werent hiring, but he didnt know I was watching him in my rear view mirror reading my application as I left...why would he bother to read it if they werent hiring? why did the other manager tell me earlier that day to come in for interview and then the next manager (different race than me and giving me the evil eye) completely blew me off....wouldnt even tell me what they were hiring for....pure racism...no one there is even my race either EXCEPT for the other manager earlier that day that said basically they needed immediate help and I live 2 HOUSES away...Im literally walking distant...and OH...guess what as I type this there still is a HUGE now hiring sign...and it will still be there tomarrow

    fu.ing I hate racists...and Im white btw.

Id still call it racism, not just reverse racism because it happens to white people all the time. I understand your frustration.

Is "reverse racism" a real phrase? Because whoever coined that term is a r****d.

basically im 31 and white and im trying to apply at fastfood places,..and all i see are teenagers working there and the managers are always younger than me and wont hire me...i give up...ive literally seen about 40 now hiring signs at fastfood places and ive literally applied to all of them and no one will hire me...i have cashier experience, bartending experience, retail, sales, stocking, so i dont know why the hell these idiot managers think a 16 yr old is more qualified to flip burgers than me?

and one place next to my house (in walking distance) has a now hiring sign up almost half the time for a overnight cook, (since teenagers dont do overnight cuz of school) and yet they STILL dont hire me...they have two managers.,one white and one black...i talked to the white guy and he started interviewing me immediately when i walked in and said okay, come in later today at 2pm and we'll finish the intereview...(cuz he was busy cuz of lunch) and i get there at 2pm and the hes gone, instead its this 5'3 black 25 yr old ghetto tough guy wanna be and im 31 6'2 and he said "may i help you" i said are you hiring" he said nothing...then paused.."i do the hiring and we dont have intereviews unless i call you"...BS... i told him i was there two hours earlier and talked to the other guy and the other guy said they were looking for a night cook...and he got "quiet and looked away off in space" then he repeated himself "i do the hiring we dont have intereviews'"......and ironically he was on break..chatting with about 15 teenager school drop outs just sitting aroung smoking pot ....f''king sucks..he said all of this before even reading my info ....just took one look at me and said to himself "to white,to old,to tall, i want a teenager I can boss around not someone who can whip my ass in 2 seconds"....

ironically, i can make alot more money being my own boss ...so i dont know why im so mad...i feel sorry for white people in the usa...and oh, check out infowars dot com...talks about the amnesty bush is doing and how los angelos is being talken over otherwise uprising would set in....what a joke this country has become.

Affirmative action can be a form of reverse racism. In this particular case I am not sure its the right word. Simply racism would be correct???

I'm feel for you and your frustration but I've found this place to be pretty unsympathetic whenever racism is suspected.

I'm very interested to see what the responses to this thread will be.

Good luck and hopefully you'll find something soon.

I think "reverse discrimination" is the official phrase.

We knew what you meant, though.

What size company is it? Are most of the employees minorities? If you really believe you were discriminated on the bases of race, you owe it to yourself to file a claim with the EEOC. Its easy and free.

It might be race-based or age-based, but it probably isn't because they want cheap labor not because they hate a certain race. Let's face it, most fast food places hire strictly immigrant labor for cooks because they think they can work them harder and pay them less. It's amazing how easy it is to manage someone when you can threaten to call Homeland Security if they screw up.

This reminds me of the McDonalds near UH Central, which is the first non-mexican restaurant that I've ever seen advertise for cooks on their front sign in Spanish only. I found this pretty funny, considering the neighborhood is predominately poor and black, i.e. large local work-force, yet they were only looking for non-English speaking cooks.

Blaming other people or "the man" is an easy way out of everything. But it never gets you anywhere, except makes you angrier and not able to function properly with others.

Have you tried driving around town and seeing if any new businesses are opening up, and applying there? How about the mall? You can approach ten businesses within half an hour.

Have you tried Craigslist? There are alot of jobs posted each day under retail/service, etc..

The problem is that its so hard to prove something like racisim. I'd almost believe that they are more guilty of age discrimination than racism as that is often the case. Is it possible that they are worried that you are over-qualified? It sucks when that is the case but I know that happens all the time and I'm not sure why. I think a lot of times, managers can be intimidated by hiring a more qualified person with some experience as they cannot push them around like they can some 16 year old inexperienced kid.

No matter what it is, it is wrong, but I'll bet it happens everywhere one way or another. I'll bet there are few places that don't discriminate at all even if they don't realize they do it. Whether it be Race, Sex, Age, Looks, or whatever, I believe every one of us has some sort of sterotypes engrained in our head as to our initial opinion of someone no matter how hard we try to be fair (which is what matters in a job interview). Not saying it is right, but I think it is a fact of life.

Tim my man, what the hell are you thinking applying with all these fast food joints?

You sound to me rather articulate, why are you waisting your time in these places? I'd like to help you but I want to know why other than because it's close to your house!

This is definitely what I plan on teaching my kids .. the minute you start making excuses for yourself and making yourself angry, you are only hurting yourself and letting those that do you wrong win. The only way you can make more of yourself is to keep on keepin on and know that there are times in your life when you'll get screwed no matter how unfair it is.

I see middle-age, white ladies all the time and sometime males at places like McDonald's. I didnt realize how hard it was to get a job like that.

I think you might be jumping to conclusions. There could be a thousand reasons why that guy reacted the way he did. It sounds like there is some kind of manager conflict between the two guys about who has the power to hire that you got into the middle of, for example.

Tim, I feel for you and I don't like what happened to you, but to call it racism is a stretch.

Oh my poor little white children, I long to see the day when they are judged by the color of their skin and not the Mullet, ratty goatee, Double-Chin, multliple tattoo scars across the back, Unibrow, RC-Cola-in-hand, "No Fat Chicks" tee-shirt way they present themselves when trying to apply for McJobs that teenagers only take so they can have enough pot for the weekend.
