At least he didn't call for God to smite them, though it comes close. I wonder if I should pray for a miracle in regard to Pat Robertson?

    Robertson Calls for Justices' Retirement
    By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

    Filed at 11:49 p.m. ET

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) -- Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson urged his nationwide audience Monday to pray for God to remove three justices from the Supreme Court so they could be replaced by conservatives.

``We ask for miracles in regard to the Supreme Court,'' Robertson said on the Christian Broadcasting Network's ``The 700 Club.''

Robertson has launched a 21-day ``prayer offensive'' directed at the Supreme Court in the wake of its 6-3 June vote that decriminalized sodomy. Robertson said in a letter on the CBN Web site that the ruling ``has opened the door to homosexual marriage, bigamy, legalized prostitution and even incest.''

The same letter targets three justices in particular: ``One justice is 83-years-old, another has cancer and another has a heart condition. Would it not be possible for God to put it in the minds of these three judges that the time has come to retire?''

Judging from the descriptions, Robertson was referring to Justice John Paul Stevens, who was born in 1920, and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who had colon cancer surgery in 1999. The identity of the third justice was unclear.

Pat Robertson is very embarassing to me as a Christian. I wish he weren't the loud voice he seems to be for those who share my faith. I wish him well...but I find myself at odds with him quite often.

People sure have a warped sense of what their "god" should be doing...

he tells Deion not to pay his repair bill?

now Pat wants him to "off" a few justices?

ok why would any god, one that is worthy of the title, care about the secular laws of any one nation? Pat's god has allowed millions upon million to kill each other in the allmighty's name, so why would he/she care about silly human laws?

Fanatical religious practice is a mental illness. These people need serious help.

according to Deion, this must be what is going through god's head on a typical day..

"uhmm...there are millions of starving children around the world, countless deadly dieases, and the aliens havent returned to pick up Michael Jackson like they promised they would....but, I think I'll use my powers to tell Deion, who is a multimillionaire, to stiff a mechanic outta 3 grand...."

I'm not even a Christian, but as someone who fights for open-mindedness towards faith as a concept, and faiths in particular, watching him do his thing on this...holding that lady's hand for prayer support, and sounding so righteous...makes me cringe.

I'm not about to put myself in the mind of God...or pretend I could understand His purposes in the minutiae of our lives...but I don't think it's far-fetched to think that God cares about justice...or man's laws...in fact, the Bible spends a good deal of time talking about man's laws. Romans 13 addresses it directly in the New Testament.

I also wouldn't limit an infinite God to assume that anything is an either/or proposition for him. Because He is involved in my life doesn't mean He can't be involved in the lives of others with seemingly larger problems. or vice versa.

My problem with Pat is his approach...and a good deal of his theology, particularly when he likes to wear his prophet hat.

The scariest part? Millions believe every word out of his mouth is gospel. To them, this moron not only represents Christianity, he IS Christianity. If your ideas don't match his, you're not a "real" Christian.

Sadly, this beautiful faith founded on peace and compassion, has once again been hijacked by hateful fundamentalists who use religion to justify hatred, oppression and mass slaughter.

    Round and round we go...

Don't overreach now! Pretty much everything you said is wrong. I am Catholic, and I have never read him state that Catholics are not "real" Christians.

And please don't try to draw moral equivalence between Pat Robertson and extremist Muslim leaders who preach hate. That is very weak.

Ask Mr Robertson if he condones the killing of abortion doctors.

Or what his stand is on Homosexuality.

I'd love to here his answers.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't support murder of abortion doctors! I would be shocked if he did. I would guess he thinks homosexuality is sinful, are you implying he thinks we should ship off or kill all gay people?

When it is about self-righteousness, power, and having a "god on your side" who listens to your "prayer offensive", the comparisons are obvious.

Prayer offensive? An offensive is an attack, not a word or an action I associate with prayer. When I pray, I always thank God for what I have and ask him those who need him the most (sick, poor, etc). As a good Catholic, I am going to ask God to cure Robertson of his mental illness.

I didn't say anything about Islam (which is itself a peaceful religion that has also been co-opted by fundamentalists). But I'm not sure there's much difference between Pat Robertson condoning abortion clinic bombings (which he does) and Muslim leaders who condone temple bombings.

    Hate is hate is hate.

Pat Robertson is not Christianity, nor does he embrace the true ideals of the faith (compassion, tolerance and love). He's just another shrill voice in the chorus, but one who has somehow smuggled in a megaphone.
