Return of the Red Rowdies Rockets set to reward new edition of Red Rowdies with season tickets HOUSTON -- They're wild. They're red. And, above all else, they're loud. Now, they're assembling again to tranform Toyota Center into one of the loudest venues in the NBA. The Rockets will hold open auditions on Saturday, Sept. 22 for fans to become Red Rowdies -- and earn free season tickets for the 2007-08 season. The Red Rowdies are a collection of basketball nuts gathered to help give the Rockets a home-court advantage. During their inaugural season, the crazed group of fans attended every Rockets home game free of charge and sat in a cheering section located in section 114. After seeing the successful implementation of the fan section last season, the Rockets are bringing the Red Rowdies back and holding an open casting call for the next edition of passionate hoops fans. Each fan will have 30 seconds to earn season tickets and make a case for why they belong with the Red Rowdies. Fans can bang on drums, stretch their vocal chords and wave signs. Anything to prove they're one of the Rockets' big supporters. A panel of celebrity judges will choose 50 Rockets fans to receive season tickets to every home game during the 2007-08 season. Registration will begin at 2 p.m. with auditions starting at 3:30 p.m. The event will take place on the Rockets practice court, located inside Toyota Center. Use the Bell St. atrium entrance on the corner of Bell St. and LaBranch St. For more information, contact Chrislord Templonuevo at (713) 758-7351 or via fax at (713) 758-7248. Even with the Red Rowdies, the arena still looks dead. Hopefully with all the new talent and new offensive scheme, people will actually fill up the arena this season. (Buying tickets to goto the Lexus Lounge doesn't count)
This is real great news! The rowdies last year was just plain awesome! Makes me proud to be a die-hard rockets fan! And to make it all better, some of the other teams are doing the same act now! Great job guys, keep it up, and get rowdier and louder this upcoming season!
I'm sure 100 free tickets is too much to ask for, but after seeing them in action last year, I think there needs to be another 50 for the exact opposite side of the arena (south side). that way you could have "dueling" red rowdies. mayeb even with a different name... Red Rowdies vs. Red Raucous something like that.
It's gonna be crazy every night this year, people are fired up, it's the place to be again and things are going well here in Houston with the economy being better here than 95% of the rest of the US. I just wish the pavilions were allready built and that park was done. Can't wait and I hope we can get around 20 clutchfans in that group!
If I lived in Houston, I would try to start up another group, called the "Blue Collar Boys" or something like that. We'd wear Battier, Hayes, Mutombo, and maybe Scola jerseys, and red hard hats. Maybe have a charges taken or rebound counter. I think it could be a fun group.
I wonder if their popularity is going to cause a lot of turnover. For instance, do last years rowdies get a leg up as proven, or is it an open audition? DD
This year should definitely draw more fans as we move away from Dumpy ball to a more uptempo easy on the eyes ball.
Last year they gave out 30 tickets at the first audition. Only about 55 people showed up, so chances were very high in being selected. This year, I'd expect at least 300 people to show up.
It is an open audition, but we will have a leg up in that we know what the judges are looking for, some of the judges will recognize us from last year, etc. However, that is not to say that you shouldn't come try out. There have already been ~10 Rowdies from last year who have told me that they won't be able to join us this year.
can i bring a dry erase board and markers to the game on a stick? then i can make signs with game time info. like if Lebron misses a free throw i can quicky draw up something to go for him or whatever.
Red Towlies Red Mouthies Red Pulstilskin (fairy tale?) Red Rowdiers (1 extra letter) Red Robbies (everyone has to be named robert) Red Russians (too cold war) Rod Rewdies Rue Paulies
OHOHOH! Everyone has to wear the classic referee zebra stripes & be called: Ref Howdies Ref Howlies They chant the loudest when the ref blows a call or calls a touchy foul!
I would go as far as to write something on it as you are bringing it in and stashing the marker in your pocket.
you know times like this i wished i lived in houston sigh not sure if i would have made it but i sure as hell would have tried out like crazy
