This team is a few players away from being a contender, even without Yao. We're going to have Yao and T-Mac's contracts coming off the books soon which is going to give us the room to sign practically anyone.

Not to mention the young core we have blossoming right now. We have great young players to build around and you know for sure Daryl Morey will bring in more.

Yao was great but he's definitely not the answer anymore. A slow, lumbering center, no matter how skilled is not going to last in this league anymore.

I'm looking forward to the future now that we can (almost) officially put the Yao/T-Mac era behind us.

i agree with everything you said. without yao and t-mac we still gave the Lakers everything we had.

that's with none of our players above 6'9! i know chuck hayes is a stump on the defensive end but that's still impressive.

all we need is a few more pieces. 1 big man and 1 athletic wing will take us to the promised land.

Even if Landry,Brooks and Lowry are retained,it will amount to rebuilding. Veterans like Battier and Luis aren't likely to stay in for the long haul.

How do you hope to acquire them for two chronically injured stars?

I say trade Scola and Battier!!

I love both and would love to see them retire in Rockets Red buttttt I think these two guys can get you prime young talent along with the draft next year could help you rebuild ASAP!! The money we will have to spend could be a blessing in suprise as vetern teams in contention will give up quite abit for glue guys like Battier and Scola which can be argued is a top 10 power forward. All this being said this is the doomsday scenrio so a wait and see attitude is needed!!!

I say trade anybody and everybody if the right deal comes along. We don't have a single stud on this roster. The player I'd least like to move is probably Lowry because of his age and skillset and he may end up being nothing more than a backup in the long run.

Trade away these 2 guys, we lose defense and hustle, which are what the rockets stand for. All that for some gamble for excitement in this worst draft in 10 years? I don't think that'd be a very smart move.

    great players win championships

    the rockets don't have any

they have some very good contributors

they have some potentially great players who can't stay healthy

i say we trust morey to wipe clean and move on...even if that means parting with guys we really like right now.

    The 2010 draft class is a darn good one according to Chad Ford so a top 10 pick could very important for this franchise. I agree these guys stand for what the Rockets are all about but think about it;

Scola will be 30 next year how many good years does he have left and when well we be a championship contender again 2011 at best?
Battier is a great glue guy, if not the best, but on a young team will he be as valuable?

I love these guys but the pieces we can get for them could allow us a run at it in 2011 and contenders will trade young and talented players for them.

I'm sorry, but anyone that thinks that this team should be doing anything but completely rebuilding right now is absolutely out of their mind.

There's literally nothing more obnoxious in the GARM right now than these reassuring "oh we can just sign Gortat at the MLE! don't worry guys!" posts/threads in the face of the greatest existential concern since hakeem's decline.

wake up and look at the big picture.

I totally agree. Everyone keeps mentioning taking the Lakers to 7 games in the playoffs. Do any of you realize that without Yao, we're going to be struggling to get to the playoffs? Gortat, seriously, that's some of your suggestions to patch up a hole left by someone like Yao?

No one is going to remember this year's playoff run if we're going to be stinking it up next season.

    Morey's State of Mind

    We know the following:

    1) He was actively trying trade to T-Mac for Amare on draft night.
    2) He contacted Memphis with an offer of Battier and Brooks for #2 pick and Rudy Gay.
    3) He tried to put deals in place with OKC and Washington.
    4) Offered Minny the same deal he gave Memphis and got rejected.

Morey has been hot on Rubio's trail making every attempt at acquiring an 18 year raw player who is going to take a few years before he starts contributing. That is not really an ideal fit for a team looking to contend and win a championship. Unless the plan was to sell high and rebuild quickly by trading Brooks and Landry who are on the radar of many GMs.

This leads me to believe Morey had knowledge of the situation with Yao's future and he tried to make a move to stack his deck before word got out.

Now with the rumors spreading like wildfire, his position has been compromised. I could see him having a hard time salvaging the upcoming season if word on the street about Yao is true.

In any case Morey needs to make his moves quickly or address the situation with Yao because the fan and media backlash will be hard to swallow.

The Rockets should have no interest in winning 50 games, only to "valiantly go down fighting" in the first round, let's put it that way.

The Yao news completely changes my opinion on getting Amare or Rubio. My reservations with those two at first were how would they fit with Yao but now that Yao is all but out for the season, I fully support a move to get either one or another star or potential star player.

God this is still so shocking and all of a sudden. :(

    Rebuild!
Our #1 option may never play again
Our #2 option may never play again at a high level
Our #3 option is a FA over 30

we've got scola, brooks, landry, and lowrey and that's it.

Battier and T-Mac should be traded as soon as possible

Damn that Rudy Gay trade hurts a lot
