I would assume you would leave the same tip amount regardless or not if you used a gift certificate. Right?

I'm kinda laughing when I look at some of the restrictions/terms of using the gift certificates in my area. There must be a lot of cheap bastards that use these coupons. A lot of places add on an automatic 18 or 20% gratuity if you use one of these coupons.

You have to be a cold person to get a huge discount on your meal and then leave a small tip!

If they automatically add the 18% gratuity do you still have to tip?

My assumption would be not unless you got exceptional service and wanted to leave extra. Additionally, as a waiter, I would assume the reason they add the gratuity on is because they have had a negative experience with the people that generally use these coupons. If you wanted to, I'd ask the manager of the restaurant if the server got the included gratuity (I can't imagine that they wouldn't).

Do you have to tell them you will use a coupon when you order foods?
