Taking the wife to a play tonight at the Hobby Center, trying to find a place to eat downtown prior to the show. I know all of the main stream places down there for the most part but she just texted me from work and said she was "Okay with trying something new" which in marriage talk means, I want to try something new.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Artista's in the same building and is supposed to be great. Haven't been, though.

There's really not much else within 10 blocks.

Thanks. We're driving from Pearland so anything is basically on the way as long as its in the general vicinity.

I would do the Hard Rock bc I'm sure they have good beer on tap prior to having to sit through a musical. But since this is our valentines day (out of town next week) I'm sure she wants something quiet/low light/guy playing a piano/take out a second mortgage type of place

We always do Cabo on Travis. Food is so-so, but you can sit outside on the second floor balcony, drink and people-watch. If it's a nice night, it's always fun.

Morton's Steakhouse is always a good place too, but it's kind of a walk from Hobby Center. Again, if it's nice outside, nothing wrong with walking.

I walked into the Lancaster Bistro once, which is really close by, and I liked it a lot. Its in the Lancaster hotel. If you walk around you'll find a place, its not like there is a wait for any place downtown

Yeah, I think it's a different mexican place now. Or maybe now its Cabo and it was a different Mexican place

There are plenty of restaurants, you might just have to look a little harder for them for them

The place is way overrated, it's like they try to hard to be "fancy". My go to downtown is Spencer's in the Hilton of Americas. Their filet is perfection.

Went to Hearsay. Food was pretty good, decently priced. Somehow got a appetizer cooked and at our table before I could get a beer, our server claimed the bar was "backed up" even though the building was half full

It might be called something else now, but it's still a mexican joint. Just had some fish tacos there a few months ago before the Ben Folds Five concert.

Avoid Yao's place. Literally the worst service I've ever received from a waiter. And I'm a VERY low-maintenance restaurant patron.

EDIT: Oh, you went last night. Nevermind.

Phoencia!!! You can even park in the garage for free if there is no street parking. The deli is beyond awesome. The best place to eat in downtown day or night.

A friend of mine thought it was "cute", but she liked the movie much better.

But, then again, she didn't like Spamalot.
