State Rep. Joe Moreno, D-Houston, was killed in an overnight traffic accident near La Grange, officials with the Texas Department of Public Safety said today.

Moreno, who was first elected to represent Houston's east side in1998, was traveling on Texas 71 when the wheels of his pickup truck evidently slipped off the road's shoulder, said DPS reports.

The trio were returning to Austin after having attended Thursday night's playoff contest between the Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks in Houston.

Me and two friends were on 71 passing through La Grange on our way back to Austin after watching the Rockets Game!! The article said he was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:57am. We passed through La Grange at around 1:30am   :( :(

Wow, that's really sad to hear... hopefully he was happy about the Rocket's win.

 Doesn't sound right to say that, but I think it is sad/weird/upsetting that we will link the ROX to his passing. :(
