I'm on my HS basketball team and tonight we played Cy-Springs high. We lost 61-29. Our record is 0-3 What amazes me, is that most of the people on our team start to blame the coach. That to me, is just wrong. On the way to the game, we were in the bus and instead of focusing on the game, they were playing around. (For those who don't know, from Spring Woods High to CySprings High is a 40 min drive) Yep. 40 whole minutes they spent screwing around and then at the end of the game the go and blame coach. What amazed me was how this one kid on the A-Team had no respect for the coach. With 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter coach pulled him. He went over to the bench and coach started telling him how he should've passed the ball (He got pulled right after he got called for holding the ball for 5 seconds) Here's the dialogue: Kid: Nonone was open coach! Coach: You gotta open your eyes and look son! Kid: everybody was yelling at me and ****, and it wasn't my fault! Coach:Stop being a little terd and take responsibility for your actions! Kid: Stop f**king yelling at me, I ain't be-in' (slang somehow ) a terd! Those b*ches wouldn't come up and they blamed that **** on me! Coach:Why don't u stop being a d*ck and shut up and sit down. Kid:Shut up coach, you ain't even a coach you don't even know how to coach. And, I ain't be-in' a d*ck, your being a d*ck. Coach: You wanna take this out side and see who can be a bigger d*ck? Kid: I know i got bigger d*ck than you so shut up and go sit down on the ontherside of the bench. Coach:How bout you take your stuff and go sit in the stands, because your ass is off the team. Now, if that isn't disrespecting, I don't know what is. By the way, this was a Freshman A-Team player. I'm on the Freshman B-Team but I know because we were watching their game after ours and he came over and was telling us. Now, I think that that is wrong. I wouldn't ever say anything more to my coach than "Yes coach, your right I blew it." Anyone got any thoughts? Have any of ya'll seen anything like this before? Oh yea, last year on our Jr.High team, we had 2 guys flick the coach off and walk away from the gym in the 3rd quarter. We were playing away and they walked home. That is sad. What is happening to society these days? Everywhere I look I just see more kids talkin back to elders and it just ticks me off. ------------------ Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! were 4-0. both of our teams. we dont really have a/b. they tried to pick teams evenly. i cant play this year(injured). we dont have any disrespectful players on our team. i could never imagine a player saying anything to our coaches because they we would regret it in practice the next day. I think this might be because almost al of our players are pretty good players. so no one guy thinks he is a stud. All the way to state baby! Go LUFKIN! by the way rockets r us, how tall is the tallest guy on your team? I think we might be kind of small for the bigger teams in the state.
Man, we are Small with a capital S. Tallest guy is 5'10. I'm 5'5. I play Shooting gaurd and I grabbed 5 rebounds the other night. Guess how much our starting powerforward and center got combined? 4. Sad. Our biggest guy is flunking so were waiting for him to comeback, til then our center is a 5'8 pudgy guy. ------------------ Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! ouch, we have 2 six footers. and 4 people about 5'10 or over. One of my friends from houston said that alot of the dallas teams were really big at state last year so i was kind of worried. im 5'5 and play point guard(well i would have but im injured this season)

I don't know. When I played ball in high school, I never dreamed of talking back to my coach that way. It just wasn't done. Even once when I laid down a monster Mutombo-block on him during a scrimmage, I didn't talk too much trash. Kids today scare me. The weirdest thing is that I'm only five years out of high school, and I already see a noticable change in the attitude of today's youth. On the other hand, I don't like the idea of a coach calling one of his players a "turd" or a "dick", no matter what the circumstances. Someone in a position of authority like a coach should teach by example, and handle himself and his team with more dignity. I mean, really, challenging his player to a fight outside??? That's unbelievable. In this case, the coach is being just as childish as the player. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
Our coach is also the freshman football coach and just came off of football season. He is 24 yrs old. ------------------ Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! I've noticed, in my experiences, that Freshman basketball coaches aren't always the greatest. My freshman year, we had a young football coach just out of college. After losing a heartbreaker, 69-67, to the best team in our district (who we had destroyed earlier in the year), I tapped the ball with my foot. It was in no way a hard kick or anything. He grabbed me, threw me up against the wall, and proceeded to yell in my face. I just sat there and said nothing except "I'm sorry sir, I was just disappointed by the loss." I left it to my older sister who was yelling, "Get your fu(kin' hands off my brother you fu(kin' a$$hole!" IMO, the coach was just as out of line, if not more so, than the player. ------------------ "He was under more balls than a midget hooker."-Bobby Hill visit www.swirve.com and, http://www.geocities.com/clutch34_2000 for great Rocket insight by some of your fellow BBS posters!
Damn, I haven't experienced anything of that nature in my 4 years of high school and 2 years of Junior ball, fortunately. Though, last year one Paytonesque player on our team quit the team with some words exchanged with the coach, but nothing of the magnitude Rockets 'R Us described. Definatley, the coach could have handled that situation with a lot more class, and threatening to take his player "outside" was every bit as immature as the what the player said/did. That is somewhat expected (though not acceptable) from an immature adolescent, but an adult professional should have more restraint. Respect for adults is vital, no doubt. But if kids can't be respected, how can we expect them to respect adults? Azim da Dream ------------------ We don't live for the destination. We live for the journey. http://www.clutchtown.com
Say man, catch this. The kid.....IS STILL ON THE TEAM!!! Coach said he shall give him "one more chance." I'm not pissed at the guy, I'm just pissed at the program in general for letting a player and a coach get away with that kind of crap. ------------------ Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! He must be good to still remain on the team after an incident like that. What's the lesson of this story? ------------------
the lesson is that there is no lesson. let the kid stay. one day he will choke a coach in the NBA, but still make millions of dollars. ------------------ SUCK POLICE!!!!!! I remember WWWAAYYY back in the day my transition from Jr High to High school the QB from my Jr high and I went to the Same high school . . . he told me how he was Recruited to this magnet school. I think that this is even more intensive now and when you recruited and think I can go anyware I want. . . the school owes you for showing up . . . so they can take your sh*t. and some coaches know their job is to win no teach sportsman ship, life lessons or even to teach the frickin' game IT IS TO WIN so they tolerate some alot of that sh*t for a WIN. That is what is wrong. . . Rocket River ------------------
Players should be respectful of their coaches, but the coaches have to earn some of that respect. It sounds like the player is behaving just like the coach taught him -- and the coach does have some issues. You can't have an exchange like this and expect someone to respect you. You also can't give a player an ultimatum that you aren't willing to carry through. Of course, the sad thing is, we encourage coaches to behave like that, by saying it's expected and shrugging it off. IMHO a person who can't motivate players without doing some stupid stunt like offering to compare "size", stranging players, or shoving soiled toilet paper in their faces, shouldn't be teaching or coaching anyone. ------------------ Stay Cool...
Unfortunately we, as a society, have become too tolerant. In my day, we would never dream of cursing in front of an adult or showing them the slightest sign of disrespect. Nowadays it is common to see both youth and adults resorting to foul language and disrespectful behavior. The positive thing I have found is if you mention to younger folks that their language is offensive, they generally apologize and quit talking like that. A number of times when I hear younger folks (15-25) using foul language, I will let them know that their language is offensive and they respect that. On the other hand, when I mention it to older folks (35+), they tend to tell me to F$%^ off. ------------------
A school coach doesn't have to prove anything or earn any respect. Their position commands it. These kids are students, and they should do what the coach says or suffer the consequences. If they don't like it, go back to Phys Ed and square-dance. ------------------ For chrissakes, would you cover yourself?
Adults use the "I deserve respect because I am older than you" far too often. It comes down to respect for one another as humans - old, young or the same age. Many times when dealing with reporters, politicians and business people (many of whom were older, more influential and had more money and power), I found that the ONLY way to earn their respect was to not accept their rules and opinions blindly. The only time I did that, the person treated me rather rudely. When I spoke my mind and was honest and, most of all, didn't take their crap, they were more respectful and we were able to have a much more open and friendly dialogue. I don't advocate just being a little sh*t and cursing people. That doesn't solve anything. However, no matter what your age, if you don't stand up for what you believe in, you will always be pushed around. There is just a right way to do it and a wrong way. oiel: Dresses? No hand-holding in hallways? That's r****ded. Also, that play, if true, is just as disrespectful as talking trash, IMO. ------------------ "He was under more balls than a midget hooker."-Bobby Hill visit www.swirve.com and, http://www.geocities.com/clutch34_2000 for great Rocket insight by some of your fellow BBS posters!
