I have recently purchased a Vbulletin license so I can build a sports forum for high school sports down here in the valley...I was using proboards before, but I got an offer to transfer it to his server/website. Proboards is very simple to use, but I've discovered that Vbulletin is not so simple. I wanted to get Vbulletin because I like all the features that Clutchfans uses. The problem is in building the actual boards. Does anyone have experience building forums on Vbulletin? I have questions to ask you. Thanks FT
Have you RTFM, yet? Where is it that you're getting stuck? I am hoping you're having trouble at some deep step in the installation/configuration/customization, not at the beginning.
I've skimmed the manual, but I want to get it up and functional before I tweak it. The vbulletin is already installed on the server. I'd like to know where to build the categories and forums. At this point, I am here: (default) www.rgvsn.com/forum I would like to build it into this: www.rgvsportsforum.com
http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/ takes me to a search place where I typed "categories" and http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/main/appendix_1_vbulletin is the help file that has the "categories."
I'm experienced with this, infact I just setup a vB forum myself recently. http://www.talkoled.com E-Mail me through the board if you need any help/advice.
Thanks for the help. I've got the basic forum built now, but I would like to add the video embed code and spoiler tags. I've always loved the features of Clutchfans and that is why I decided to use it for my forums.
The D in SwoLy-D meant DEFENSE. Maybe it could be Hyper-Defense? The good thing about vBulletin and the new versions is the fact that you can make YOUR OWN tags for things such as SPOILER or NSFW. All you need is "a little patience", sai Axl Rose. Falcons, would it be best to have the forums as a SUB-folder, or the root of the site? Wouldn't you want to put other stuff if you can't do sub-domans like bbs.yoursite.com ? It works with bbs.clutchfans.net, though, since many people know www.clutchfans.net . I would also think forums.yoursite.com would do well.
I have a friend that started the RGV Sports Network website. He has ben looking for a forums to add onto his site and I was an admin on the largest RGV sports Forum until they screwed everything up and I went of on my own proboards site. Now, I have joined up with RGVSN.com and will be a part of his website. I will change my domain name(www.rgvsportsforum.com) to point directly at my forums, so I shouldn't lose members. I've got the youtube code up, but am looking for the same code that Clutch uses for this site.
OK...it's coming along... A few questions... Anyone know how to set up the read message areas so the posters' name are on the left of the post (like here in Clutch) as opposed to above the post (like on mine)? www.rgvsn.com/forum
You guys are great! Thanks for the help. I opened her up on Saturday and have 200 members now. Yesterday, the website owner (RGVSN) said his site has over 500,000 hits to start September...that's in 3 days... I guess my baby is going to be ok... Take a look... www.rgvsportsforum.com
