excuse me this lame question. there are like 6 of my friends debating this. the question is: why did we have no 1st round picks on the badiane and spazhoodle years? what trades did that? etc.....thanks for your input.

Long time HP... If my memory serves me correct. We lost one 1st rounder, by trading with Atlanta. They gave us their 2nd round pick (Terrence Morris) for a 1st rounder. We owed the Grizzlies one for several years for the Steve Francis Trade. Then instead of gaining a 1st round pick for trading an expiring contract, we gave up a 1st rounder to trade away Glen Rice.

Thats all I remember off the top of my head

    Cool...an HP sighting!

    2003 - Badiane = Memphis receives Houston's 2003 first-round pick (Francis trade 08.22.99).

This was #13 and they selected Marcus Banks. IIRC, we could have sent them the #15 from the prior draft but either didn't or MEM refused. I believe we didn't and that was the pick used for Boki.

2004 - Spanoulis = The Jazz received our #21 and selected Pavel Podkolzine whom they traded to DAL. We received a 2nd rounder and a $7.8m trade exception.

    More on the Rice trade...
Houston gives the Jazz a conditional first round pick in 2004, acquired by the Rockets from Chicago in 2000. If Chicago retains the pick then the Jazz will receive two second round picks from Chicago, one in 2005 and 2006. Utah also receives additional consideration from Houston.

We moved to #1 from the 5th spot. I couldn't quickly find the 2002 odds but the 2003 odds were 89 in 1000. Since there were the same # of teams, I can't imagine the odds changed much if they changed at all.

I think you're right -- we had the exact same odds in 2002.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nbadraft/story?id=1384273

Houston had the fifth-worst record (28-54) this season and an 8.9 percent chance of getting the top pick. The pingpong balls bounced the Rockets' way, though, extending a trend: The team with the best chance of grabbing No. 1 hasn't done so since 1990.
