I just received some EDO RAM from an internet purchase, and of course I want to install it.

I haven't done anything to a computer besides plug everything in. So, what are the steps I need to take to install the new RAM?

From what I gather, it's not very difficult, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I have a tower case, and the computer's a Packard Bell. We bought it in 1997, so it's fairly old.

Are there any tricks or anything to watch out for getting into the case? And, how the heck do you get it off?

    Thanks for any help.

    Installing RAM??

    ok...

    First thing, unplug your PC.

Then, try to figure out how to get the case off of your PC. Look for screws on the back of the pc that may hold the panel... or you may have to pop off the face of the CPU and there may be a release button or more screws... either way you gotta get the case off.

Then locate where your RAM is, usually in the middle of the motherboard somewhere...

To install the RAM, place it at a slight angle and pop it in. There are usually locks on the ends of where your putting your RAM, make sure they SNAP into place when you put the RAM in. You may have to use a little force to SNAP it in place. Just be careful and don't break anything.

    It's really an easy process.
You can also do a search on the net for "installing RAM" or something along those lines, you're bound to find something...

Also, if you have your PC's original documentation there should be info in the manual or the motherboard manual about removing the case and installing RAM.

    good luck

Yeah, the every brilliant Packard Bell didn't give me a hard copy of a manual. There's supposed to be one on the "Master Disc", but I can't access it. And, now they don't sell in the U.S. anymore, so their online help is a joke as well.

I know it's crap, but it is the first computer my wife and I bought. It was top-o-the-line ($2000+) when we got it.

I do not know for absolute certain that the RAM will work. But, I do know it's EDO, which my stupid computer uses. And, I know it's 4 sticks of 32MB RAM, which it should support. It came with 32 MB RAM, and it says "upgradable to 128 MB".

Otherwise, I don't know what else to look for or know about matching RAM to my computer....

Any final words before I smack those suckers in?
