Did you see where despite all his scandals, Tom Delay still kicked butt over other GOP hopefuls. I guess it tells you something about the GOP.
It's all name recognition in primaries (and general elections to some extent). DeLay has it and sadly that means he gets votes.
He's held the job for 22 years. For politics that is amazing to me. I do find it sad that it does appear that people don't care and will vote for a possible felon. It's more important to be loyal to the party. You know...values and all that...
I don't think this is them being loyal to the party...after all every one of the candidates was Republican. I still believe it's name recognition. Just ask anyone who has ever run against an incumbent how hard it is to unseat one much less defeat one in the primary.
While working yesterday, some guy came in my office. He is from Georgia. He asked me to do something to his laptop, I forget what it was. While working on his laptop he sat in my seat and saw www.chron.com up. He mumbled under his breathe, "Tom Delay won again, crooked b*stard.." I looked up and smiled. Mind you, this guy was from Georgia and we are in Iraq. The people in that district should be ashamed...
yea primaries dont prove much. I dont even think people were running against him in primaries until this year and the fact that people were even casting votes for those other candidates says something. Either way, dont waste time reading into this.
The real race will be in November when DeLay goes up against Lampson. They both have a ton of cash to spend on the race. It will be very nasty.
Right now, he's got $1.4 million in the bank for his campaign, and DeLay has $1.3 million. (that's assuming it's left over from his primary campaign) I got the info from the Houston Chronicle, if anyone wants to verify it. Lampson is going to be well financed. Right now, DeLay is behind him in the polls, and as has been pointed out around here, somewhere, the race is now rated a, "toss-up." I think this is one seat that we (the Democrats) will pick up. It will be a bloody mess of a campaign, and any incombent is hard to beat, but DeLay has worn out his welcome... finally. Keep D&D Civil.
Don't worry, I am. I tried to get my stepfather, who was a high muckety-muck at NASA, to run against DeLay in the primary, but he didn't make a decision in time. Too bad, he has the name recognition in this area to kick DeLay's a$$.
DeLay's new district includes Clear Lake and NASA. Lampson used to represent this area, so he will give DeLay a run for his money.
bigtexxx is represented in the House by Sheila Jackson Lee, and andymoon is represented by Tom DeLay. How's that for irony?
He's proly very motivated. Didn't he lose his seat in the redistricting? I'm thinking he doesn't care much for delay.
I got to meet Lampson a couple of times and I like him, though like all politicians he is behind the public WRT the drug war. I went to a fundraiser BBQ and the question I asked him was "do you think the drug war is working or do we need to try a different strategy?" He told me that if I talked to the people at the event that they would probably not support changing strategy. I went ahead and asked everyone I could get to the same question and the vote was 98% in favor of changing strategy. I brought this info to Lampson and he kind of sloughed it off. Other than that, I like him.
Trust me, I would rather have my stepfather, a REAL conservative, in office. In fact, I would rather have him than Lampson.
lampson also is fairly moderate which makes him an easier pill to swallow. i've talked to some people who used to be in lampsons district and will again be in it after he beats delay. these are hardcore old school conservatives who dont know much about catholicism much less about complexities of the global struggle against extremism. and even they are fed up with delay and will happily vote for lampson. delay's gone. etch it in stone.
