You can't make this stuff up. They can't get Kagan, so they go after one of her idols. The first black Supreme Court Justice and a Civil Rights icon. Way to reach out Conservatives, between this and Rand Paul, I wonder if they can screw up the Nov elections. Unreal

    Can screw it up?

They already have! What with knuckleheads like Paul, Angle being the face of the new Republican party, Democratic dominance is assured in November!

I think its pretty obvious that Thurgood Marshall would never be confirmed or probably even nominated today. That's not a knock on Marshall but a knock on where are politics are today.

    a couple of things,

I think Marshall was nominated because of reputation, back then, so its not about politics as much as times and what he did in his time.

secondly, the main point is that the republicans are stupid for attacking his philosophy, regardless if it is radical by today's standards, the guy is an icon.

MLK would probably look radical today today, not probably, he would beyond his civil rights beliefs, you still don't attack MLK.

You have see the forest from the trees

With this line of thinking, Repubs would say that Abe Lincoln is waaaay to radical. Or the founding fathers were to radical in causing a revolution.

Which ruling of Marshall's do you think they would have grounds to criticize?

is there some unique aspect to Marshall that renders him above reproach? or is it only black icons that cannot be criticized? what about Clarence, St. Thomas? some people think he's our greatest sitting justice, and he just had his finest hour.

were you upset at Harry Reid's challenges to his intellect? Sam's? FB's? if not, why not?

Obviously, they aren't doing themselves any favors if they want to expand their electoral base and encroach on the Democrats' base. But, I don't think they're likely to alienate anyone who already votes Republican. It's just another bit of fuel to help polarize the left and the right.

thats kinda how people feel about raegan. Repugs hold him on some kind of pedestal for no reason.

how about because he's dead and he has nothing to do with Kagan's confirmation. is that reason enough?

but hey, if you want to continue to alienate the minority vote because "principles" allow you to and no one is beyond criticism, go right ahead and stick to your guns. you're right, there's nothing wrong
