Not only is Foley a total perv, but how stupid can you be?

Foley To Resign Over Sexually Explicit Messages to Minors
    September 29, 2006 3:02 PM

Brian Ross and Maddy Sauer Report:

Saying he was "deeply sorry," Congressman Mark Foley (R-FL) resigned from Congress today, hours after ABC News questioned him about sexually explicit internet messages with current and former congressional pages under the age of 18.

A spokesman for Foley, the chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, said the congressman submitted his resignation in a letter late this afternoon to Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.

Hours earlier, ABC News had read excerpts of instant messages provided by former male pages who said the congressman, under the AOL Instant Messenger screen name Maf54, made repeated references to sexual organs and acts.

In a statement, Foley said, "I am deeply sorry and I apologize for letting down my family and the people of Florida I have had the privilege to represent."

The full details will be included in a report tonight on ABC World News with Charles Gibson.

    chairman of what???

have these people no sense of irony?

but hey, we have a republican president who thinks he has the authority to have children's testicles crushed infront of their parents, so this shouldnt be too suprising. here's the presidents legal advisor, john yoo speaking...

During a December 1st debate in Chicago with Notre Dame professor and international human rights scholar Doug Cassel, John Yoo gave the green light for the scope of torture to legally include sexual torture of infants.

Cassel: If the president deems that he's got to torture somebody, including by crushing the testicles of the person's child, there is no law that can stop him?

    Yoo: No treaty.

Cassel: Also no law by Congress — that is what you wrote in the August 2002 memo…

Yoo: I think it depends on why the President thinks he needs to do that.

You know social conservatives have always said that all gays are pedos. Looks like they have some inside information on this one.

    Another one bites the dust.

I think Florida law allows the Repubs to nominate another candidate, unlike Texas though.

Good luck finding a candidate to run a five week campaign. Unless they get a well known Republican it's over. Anyway, Im not sure if they can get on ballot. So it may have to be a write in.

    FLA law says ...

"In the event that death, resignation, withdrawal, removal, or any other cause or event should cause a party to have a vacancy in nomination which leaves no candidate for an office from such party, the Department of State shall notify the chair of the appropriate state, district, or county political party executive committee of such party; and, within 5 days, the chair shall call a meeting of his or her executive committee to consider designation of a nominee to fill the vacancy.

The name of any person so designated shall be submitted to the Department of State within 7 days after notice to the chair in order that the person designated may have his or her name on the ballot of the ensuing general election. If the name of the new nominee is submitted after the certification of results of the preceding primary election, however, the ballots shall not be changed and the former party nominee's name will appear on the ballot.

Any ballots cast for the former party nominee will be counted for the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee. If there is no opposition to the party nominee, the person designated by the political party to replace the former party nominee will be elected to office at the general election. For purposes of this paragraph, the term "district political party executive committee" means the members of the state executive committee of a political party from hose counties comprising the area involving a district office."

Foley's name appears to stay on the ballot. All votes for him will count toward his replacement.

Foley won with 68% of the vote last time. His seat of the Ways & Means committee should have paid richly in re-election dividends.

But the name of a pedophile will be on the ballot. No amount of money is going to wipe that away. Especially in five weeks.

In another thread someone used the word "anchor babies" to describe children born to Mexican parents. I said it was a dehumanizing term, and I think this is sort of the same thing ( on a much more extreme level obviously).

I think a lot of people view issues like this as if it were just in theory, even though it may have an affect on real lives. When you are so engrossed in your own argument you have a disconnect from reality (humanity), I suppose... at least in this case. Actually, I think that is especially the case when some talk about people in other countries... This idiot discussing torture in this manner will never have to see it in person. He doesnt realize he is talking about real people... If he does, then I really don't know how you can rationalize it.
