    You can't govern based on a behavioral attribute. And no large, complex society would ever function or prosper if everyone stuck to their ******* guns. I don't understand why the "hypocrisy" crowd doesn't freaking get this.

    This, so much.
    We live in a democracy. That means you ****ing compromise to get stuff. It's how it has worked since the beginning of this Republic ( any grade school teacher will tell you about how why we have two houses and the 3/5th Compromise), and it's how it will continue to work. The Tea Party and the Paultards who crow that their leaders never, ever compromise? As I like to say, Rorschach never compromised either.

    The Three-Fifths Compromise was a great compromise.

    In the sense that it allowed the United States to become a reality, it was a great compromise.
