Or maybe I should say "old" news. Tonight Fox says Rockets are still after Rashard. Lewis agent Carl Posten met with Dawson today. Poston said they are exploring different options. Sonics still in the lead. Nothing new really. Also reported Goldberg is in China, still looking for CBA release...pretty much the same stuff reported by Windandsea...again, nothing new. Said the problems with Wang won't affect the Yao negotiations. os
As far as the clearance from the CBA, Goldberg said its not a matter of if, but when. And he said that very little work was left to be done on that front and things should be good to go very soon.
Lewis is just using the Rockets and Mavs to get a better offer from Seattle. He also has an injury that the doctors said if he hurts it again he will need an operation.
Dawson has informal visit with Lewis' agent Sorry if this has already been posted. Dawson has informal visit with Lewis' agent By JONATHAN FEIGEN Copyright 2002 Houston Chronicle Rockets general manager Carroll Dawson on Tuesday met with Carl Poston, the Houston-based agent for Seattle SuperSonics forward Rashard Lewis, a source familiar with the talks said. The lunch meeting was informal and did not include Lewis, said the source, speaking on condition of anonymity. Because the Rockets are over the salary cap -- and barring a sign-and-trade deal with Seattle, they could offer only the midlevel exception to the cap -- they did not make a formal offer, the source said. The midlevel exception is worth $4.3 million the first season. If Lewis, 22, leaves Seattle, he would have to play three seasons for another team before he could regain his "Larry Bird rights," allowing his next team to go over the salary cap to re-sign him. Lewis and Poston met with Dallas Mavericks officials last week, but the Mavericks also can offer only the midlevel exception. Though the Sonics have shown no signs they would consider offering a maximum contract Lewis had been expecting, they are likely to offer a much greater contract than the Rockets or Mavericks can offer without reaching a sign-and-trade agreement with the Sonics. Lewis, a 6-10, 217-pound small forward from Elsik High School, averaged 16.8 points and seven rebounds last season, his fourth in the NBA. He made 46.8 percent of his shots and 38.9 percent of his 3-point attempts. LaFrentz nets seven-year deal -- When free agent-to-be Raef LaFrentz was traded to the Dallas Mavericks in February, he knew right away he wanted to stay. On Tuesday, he got his wish. "This is the place to be," LaFrentz said. "This is the team of the future. Last year we fell short of our long-term goal. But we're young and going to have a large window. I feel good to be a part of it." LaFrentz (6-11, 265 pounds) was so serious about staying that he didn't even talk to another team before signing a maximum-length deal of seven years. And he accepted what Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said was "a lot less" than the $84 million maximum contract. In 27 regular-season games with Dallas, LaFrentz averaged 10.8 points, down from 14.9 in 51 games with the Nuggets, while his rebound average of 7.4 was the same in both places. Davis agrees to extension -- Baron Davis is sticking with the Hornets after all, signing a contract that will bring him to New Orleans for the next seven years. Hornets executive vice president Bob Bass said the contract adds six years to the one year left in Davis' previous deal. The team, which recently moved from Charlotte, reportedly had offered Davis an $84 million package. While not confirming the compensation details, Bass said Davis would earn an annual salary equal to about 25 percent of the NBA team salary cap. The cap is $40.271 million for the 2002-03 season.
yeah those poor NBA millionares with the Hummers and houses with more rooms than you can remember oh yeah and cars too
blah blah blah, all day long, reshard this r****d that. geesh just joking, i hope we get reshard don't yah
I would love a sign and trade with Rice/KT/Nachbar involved. I like KT and think he deserves more minutes than what is available on the Rockets. I'm not sold on Rice coming back and I'm not sold on Nachbar who's injured already. Seattle receives 2 veteran players and we receive the 3 we need to compete in the Western Conference
If Dallas is willing to offer him the MCE, then we shoud offer it as well. Dallas is going to be at or near the top of the WC for some years to come and if we are going to compete with them, we need to try and do whatever we can to keep up with them If we offer the MCE to Rashard and he chooses Dallas over us, so be it. Lets just not make the same mistake we did when we decided not to make an offer to Webber. We have to at least throw our hat into the ring.
If we don't offer the MCE but find a nice sign and trade deal with the Sonics, then Rashard won't have to take a "hometown discount" and it will be much harder for him to choose Dallas over us. He's already stated he thinks their organization is better than ours, so if the the money's the same... we're screwed. Remember folks... money talks and Bullsh!t walks. Rashard's after the benjamin's so we need to get him more than the MCE.
Nachbar can not be part of any deal until December.....I think he has already signed his contract....... If not, then he can be traded. DaDakota
