I'm very curious to how the Earnhardt Sr. fans would react if this report is true. They are all so enamored with Junior, but they hate Gordon, how would they feel about them as teammates.
I'm just glad he's going to a team that gives him a great shot at winning a championship; don't think he'd ever win at DEI.
I must admit I don't follow NASCAR, but I don't get his relationship with his step-mom and DEI...Maybe I'm being too simplistic, but wouldn't you want you're step-son to be apart of the family business...
Yes, but she didn't want to give him control over the company. I don't think she should have either. Dale Jr. didn't earn any of his fans, he just took his dad's, why should he get the company too? Dale and his Stepmom never had a very good relationship and for that matter he didn't really have a good one with his father.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't DEI created for father and son to eventually run? And their relationship (him and his stepmon) seemed to have soured only recently when Dale Jr. began to show signs of wanting more control of the company and questioning its desire to be a contender.
I'm not big into NASCAR myself, but him and his stepmom had a bad relationship, it improved some, but then it worsened some more with the contract dispute. I don't think Senior decided to start a comapny in 1980 with the intention of running it with his son who would've been 5 at the time. Chance motorsports was created for Junior, but I doubt he had much to do with DEI.
Sports the only thing in the world that matters to you people? I like NASCAR although I don't really like to watch them run all 500 miles. It's very exciting to watch at the end though. BTW, I do think it is a sport, but I do not think that they are athletes.
I don't know much about Nascar, but I met Rick Hendrick and his nephew at a funeral here a few months ago. They were pretty nice people. Oh, and they also showed up in a sweet Bentley.
Car racing (Nascar, Cart, F1, etc..) are all sports and one of the most intense disciplines there are. In car racing, you lose concentration for 1 second- you are dead. In basketball, you lose concentration for 1 second- you get dunked on and game goes on. Big difference.
Perhaps you don't know that it takes a tremendous amount of endurance to turn the steering wheel at the perfect angle 500+ times in a row for 4-5 hours. These drivers have to be smooth in every aspect of their driving, and the required 5 hours of concentration is just an example of the skills needed here. After every race these guys are drenched with sweat because of the burning 130 degree temperatures, stamina, and strength. After a long race, their arms are stiff, the muscles are sore, and the gravity pressure of the high speeds in the corners virtually punishes your body. Each driver goes through a fitness regimen regardless of whether that guy is 150 pounds or 250, and thus shows the athletic ability needed. Just because you can drive a car does not mean you can jump into one of these 3600 pound stock cars and be as competitive as Jeff Gordon or Tony Stewart. An "athlete" is defined as a person who is trained or skilled in exercises, sports, or games requiring physical strength, agility, or stamina. All of those skills are effortlessly displayed in NASCAR, and perhaps you should look into racing a little more before saying that racers aren't athletes.
I wont say drivers arent athletes..but i will say I dont understand the appeal of nascar. I find it extremely boring, ya the crashes are exciting, but you have to watch the cars go around the track a bunch of times before one might happen. Its crazy, because the sport is growing in spectators i do believe. whatever floats peoples boats i guess...
i still think it is a hobby, not a sport. The Cars are doing the work. Same goes for horseracing imo. the horses are athletes, not the jockies. I think they play more of the role of coach. I dont watch much nascar cause I find it even more boring than baseball, but thats my opinion
I can't believe how many people on this board aren't interested in NASCAR. NASCAR is big where I live, but it is Middle GA and the deep south loves racing.
I never understood why some people can say Nascar is exciting and turn around and say soccer is boring. I also fail to understand why a format where you only make one type of turns are more popular than the formula series in the U.S. while the rest of the world watches formula.
