I have a lot of time here on a friday afternoon - so let me jot down some grades I think our rockets have earned thus far into the season. feel free to contest them or give your own..

    Team grade: B- or B

    Steve: A

Cant do much more than he is doing at the moment

    Cat: A-

Has shown more explosion this year, but still has a little wildness to him...Even so, Rockets would be lost without him.

    Wizard: D

If it wasnt for the occasional well-timed 3-pointers, his grade would be a little lower

Cato: not enough info (must attend summer school)

    Dream: B

I'd love to give him an A+ for the last three games, but the earlier part of the season hurt his grade... average is a B or B+

    Mooch: A

Great back up, great defense, sees the court nicely

    Anderson: C, B-

Does a lot of dirty work, shows an occasional spark, but disappears too often

    Mo: B

Not quite the impact I was expecting, but no slouch either

    Thomas: B- or C+

Pretty good player, but not developing as much as I hoped he would this year. Still has problems finishing.

    Bull: B

Knows his role, does the job...just wish he was more of a presense on defense..

    Rogers: B

Gives it all he's got - great heart, great impact..leaves it all out on the floor..unfortunately injurred almost constantly

    Collier: B -

he's young and has shown more than I had expecgted he would. But is he our center of the future?? Havent seen him enough to decide.

    Langhi: ???

Who knows? I havent seen this guy play for more than a few minutes at a time...I did give him an A+ for rubbing the sixers nose in their defeat though...hehehe

I think the team grade should be a C. C is for average and .500 is pretty average.

    Francis A
I'd give him an A+ if he would take over the offense a little more during the key stretches of the game.

    Mobley B+
Actually its kind of in between B+ and A, but he threw up one too many heaves for me [IMG].

    Anderson C+
Started off very poor but averaged out the last month or so.

    Taylor B
I have been impressed with his better than rumoured rebounding skills...his offense is a lot of what I expected.

    Olajuwon C+
Has shown greatness lately, but prior to that he only had a couple of flashbacks.

    Bench-
    Williams C-
    Bullard C
    Rogers B-
    Mooch B+
    Thomas C+
    Collier C
    Langi, Cato INC.

    Rudy T. B-
He's takin a lot of criticism from people on this board but I think he's done a decent job, especially through the point when we were lacking big men with injuries.

Steve-A He needs to be more like Mobley as far as taking shots is concerned. Great hustle and spectacular rebounding.

Cuttino-B+ He needs to be more like Francis. He has cost the Rockets a few games with his Jacks. Needs to be more unselfish.

Hakeem-A He has had plenty of great games this year, he just hasn't had the support from coaches and teammates as much as he is getting now. Also, he wasn't as energetic. He deserves the A simply for the last 3 games. If the Rockets make the playoffs, Hakeem will be looked upon as the one who saved the season.

Shandon- A Suprise grade perhaps? No other guard on the team has played better defense. Shandon brings certain intangibles to the team that they would miss if were gone.

Mo- B+ He hasn't been used properly in my opinion, but I like what he brings to the team. I think he will turn into a great rebounder one day. He has more heart than he has been given credit for. He has also made some clutch shots this year.

Kenny- B- Too many missed boards and layups, but he knows how to hustle, and he has heart.

Carlos- B- Is great at catching the ball and finishing, and has a lot of heart and hustle.
    (notice a theme?)

Moochie- B+ Best backup PG in the league. Dribbles too much some times, but what a great find.

Bullard- B- Has played many times when he shouldn't have been in the game, but that isn't his fault. He does his job.

Cato- F Out of shape? Shut the f*ck up!

Walt- B- Has disappointed me a lot, but has also come through with a lot of big triples. I like Walt, and I hope he snaps out of his funk.

Collier- D He will never be as good as Matt Bullard. He is too slow, and has missed too many open jumpers for such a "good" shooter.

Langhi- D Air-Langhi, and I am not talking about his hops. Needs development, but I don't ever expect him to become a good player. NBDL is for him.

Rudy- B+ No coach works harder than Rudy. I wish he would focus more on "winning now", and get his stupid rotations in order, but no coach works harder. I haven't seem any other coach in the league get "into games" as much as him. He sweats just as much as the players. I have been too hard on him.

Overall Grade for the team- C- I give all the individual players decent grades, but the team itself is underacheiving. They have lost to too many lowly teams, and should be much better at home. The past 3 games can not make up for the many disappointments earlier in the year.

I dont see how collier gets that much better of a grade than cato.

They have both been injured for most of the season.

In the games Cato did play in he did rebound and did block shots.

He was limited to about 15-20 minutes when he wasn't injured.

The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

    VJ,

I go by how a player has done vs. expectations, not how good the player is overall. That's why Moochie got a better grade than Shandon and Dream-- not because he is a better player, just because he has done his job better. Collier has been a lot more healthy than Cato, and when he was healthy, he far surpassed most expectations. He had a nice jumper out to 22 feet, played solid defense, gave 110% on the court, etc. When he was in his groove and getting the minutes, a lot of people here finally saw the kind of player he could be in our system in the coming years, and were pleased.

With Cato however you run a totally different story. This is the guy with the 6 million dollar per year contract over seven years. This is the guy supposed to be our center of the future. He has been way too fragile, injured every time he steps on the court. And when he isn't injured, he's out of shape. He simply is not cutting it for the "center of the future" and for a guy making 6 mil a year. When he was on the floor, there was still no improvement that I saw from a summer he was supposedly working out so hard. Still the hands of stone that couldn't handle a pass right in the breadbasket. Still going up way too early for the blocks. Still relatively weak on the boards. Still shows a lack of desire and doesn't move without the ball on the offensive end. He could be so much better, and should be better, but isn't. Let's look at the facts-- we have a center who has missed 43 of 50 games, has been out of shape when he's played, and is averaging 2 pts/2 reb in 10 minutes per game. And this guy is making SIX MILLION per year!!! For seven years!!! That doesn't cut it in my book.

The Cat, good point, but the injuries he has had were pretty serious and rightfully kept him out of the lineup.

When he does come back, think he will provide us with a good center.

I too agree that Collier deserves a higher grade, just not that much higher ofa grade.
