cause that was about gays in the military. I didn't wanta distract from that discussion. I was just curious what people think about hermaphrodites in the military.

I don't see anything wrong with letting hermaphrodites serve.

Too bad. They could be the glue that holds the army together.

Transgenders may be a tricky sell; to the extent it's not just a movie stereotype, I imagine alot of vindictive or really intense and animated drill sergeants just not being able to help themselves. It probably makes for some complicated bunking and training situations (how would gender norming be applied?). But I'm honestly not sure why hermaphrodites should be banned from serving.

i am a conservative but more of a fiscal conservative. I agree gay's should have the same rights as any other human being. Still mixed on the whole marriage thing though but I dont think the govt should get involved and it should be left to the individuals and the marriage institutions (church) decision.

Anyways I believe most Americans including myself are against repealing the DADT. Most polls show Americans want it just left the way it is but yet our president Obama once again wants to go against the will of the people.

Please link to the polls that show that.

It looks like you are against the will of the American people, not Obama.

I just do not see why this is still an issue. To me the question is whether the individual can perform the task. I just do not see how a homosexual is any less able to conduct warfare than a heterosexual.

I have never been in the military. Any military personnel or veterans that could shed some light on this topic and explain why I am either correct or incorrect?

I wonder if Dick Cheney will comment on this chestnut of an issue.

My guess is it has to with trust. Straight men are generally uncomfortable/have some trust issues around gays because they look somewhat like heterosexual men but are fundamentally different (see uncanny valley, except sub "gay" for "robot"). Maybe the military would always doubt orders from gay dudes? Then again a few decades ago the same situation would have applied to african-americans so I guess its just a matter of getting used to it *shrug*

    From the same interview:

BLOCK: But Congressman Hunter, wouldnt you agree that there are gays and lesbians serving in the military right now, they just are not open about their orientation. So the problems that you raise presumably would be problems already. They are in the barracks already. They are in the showers already.

Rep. HUNTER: No, but they arent open about it, like you just said. Its like if you want to work for NPR, you dont go to work and on the first day say, hey, I want everybody to know that Im gay. You probably dont care one way or the other as long as they, you know, get their particular job done. I think the military is the same way. Thats why dont ask, dont tell works.

Not sure what side of the argument he is representing here. Idiot.
