I want to remind all the folks here to prepare themselves in similar proportion to the alert we have been imposed on...

    This is what I recommend:

    At home -

    1. Get all medication together in one place rather than here and there (especially prescription drugs)

    2. Have flashlights at ready and extra batteries.

    3. Make sure to have first aid kit supplied.

    4. Stock up on plenty of canned goods.

    5. Buy at least 10 gallons of water.

    6. Have a battery radio ready.

    In car -

    1. Keep 1 to 2 sets of clothes in car

    2. Have a mini-first aid kit

    3. Flashlight

    4. battery radio

    5. Make sure to always keep your tank 100% FULL! Fill it frequently and keep it that way.

    6. If weather-feasible, keep 4 gallons of water and 6 to 10 canned goods

    7. Keep 1 to 2 blankets

*** If you cannot get into your neighborhood, have a predetermined place to meet with family

    Other things to consider...

    1. Consider if a safe room is feasible. If you have firearms and ammo, keep it there.

    2. Think of other vital things necessary in a sudden evacuation scenario

So you take the alert seriously?

I took the first few seriously, but now am afraid they're just politicians paranoid of looking exposed and out of touch again...

FBI and CIA just spoke to Congress. Recommended all Americans take precautionary measures incl. extra water, duct tape and I think they said plastic sheets.

They said the threat appears to be chemical/biological/or dirty nuke in the US and the Arabian penninsula, and it could occur as soon as the end of this week.

Can't we just go to war, and kick their ass now instead of having something happen?

Thanks, ROXRAN. I haven't done much of that, although I've seen the reports on the news, but I'm giving it some serious consideration. Glad for the heads-up. We should all think about it. It's not a bad idea, even if this situation didn't exist.

    I agree with ROXRAN's suggestions.

Also, contingency plans should be put in place in the event that something happens to the primary computer each poster uses to access cc.net. Alternate computers should be identified from which you can view the website to prevent any interruptions in posting.

These are the same earthquake preparedness tips that the TV stations in Los Angeles used to broadcast over and over again.

I agree with Deckard: When in danger or in doubt, run in circles... scream & shout.

Alerts like these make me wonder how anybody can be anti-war. This is no way to live. Go to war and do whatever it takes to take all steps to make sure 9/11 dosent happen again. its time to fight!!! I'm not going to change the way I live though than we lose the battle if we do.

Hey, I prdicted this! As I noted they drug out a lot of these before the November elections, then they stoped them. I'm surprised they didn't do one before the State of the Union or immediately after. I think that we can expect a lot of these "alerts' between now and the war. It fans the flames of war.

I herebye predict a great many of these in the months leading up to Nov. 2004. I think they've learned that it isn't too effective if they do it too often. Maybe they'll do a few before they present the frightening Patriot Act II bill.

Am I saying that there are no terrorists trying to do anything? Of course not. They get these reports probably every day of the year. They just choose to have an "alert" when it is useful. Put another way. They know their attack on the Arab World in contradiction to prevailing world opinion will increase the attempts to do terrorism against the US ,as the CIA has warned, so they need to cya by having alerts since eventually the odds are that something will happen.

Ah, but isn't the real question, "Will a war stop this threat?". Do you actually believe that invading Iraq will do anything to diminish these possibilities?

It didn't work going into Afghanistan, did it?

Glynch, you always come up with some conspiracy theory for every action that Republicans take.

I'm not too worried about this rubbish yet, but if Jack in the Box decides to quit making the Philly Cheese Steak again...Oh man, it will be ON!

Not that I don't appreciate the heads up, but if a dirty bomb hits Houston how the hell is duct tape going to save me?

Women will never truly understand the myriad of uses that duct tape has. Jeff, please educate your wife on this as soon as possible. :D

I could duct tape down my microphone cables so Al Queda doesn't trip over them.
