remember when there were just two kinds of pop tarts?

I remember when there were two varieties of pop tarts...frosted and unfrosted.

That was it. There was bliss in the pop tart world, because the choice was relatively easy. The boring, old fashioned people chose the unfrosted, and the exciting, adventurous people picked up a box of frosted pop tarts.

Personally, I haven't bought a box of pop tarts in a about five or six years, mainly due to the fact that I would chow through an entire box in one day. I knew that a few new varities had been introduced, but I had no idea there were so many.

    chocolate vanilla creme
    chocolate chip cookie dough
    cookies and cream
    mint chocolate chip
    strawberry milkshake
    hot fudge sundae
    s'mores
    apple strudel

are among the many varieties of pop tarts available. I don't even want to get into all the licensed pop tart varieties like spongebob and hello kitty. How many flavors is too many? Will we eventually reach pop tart overload, where the infinite variety of flavors causes poor shoppers to go into mental breakdowns?

I guess what I'm asking is for some pop tart advice. I've always been the kind of person that is open to try new things, but the choices here are just too great. I don't want to miss out on great pop tart flavor just because I was afraid or misinformed. There are simply too many flavors for me to make a rational decision by myself. Guide me on what new flavors are good and which ones I should avoid.

Also, as an aside, does this make my old favorite standby, frosted cherry, an obsolete varitey? Will I be ridiculed and scorned if I have a box of frosted cherry pop tarts in my basket, just like I ridiculed and scorned the consumers of plain ole' unfrosted pop tarts so many years ago?

Thank you for any help you may provide...

the one's I like are the new version that is a cross between a breakfast bar and pop tart. I was always too lazy to even toast them, so this new breakfast bar was right up my alley. Plus it comes in cinammon which is one of my favorites.

Ever read the nutritional facts on those? I always assumed the serving size was the package(Two pop tarts)...wrong. Each pop tart, depending on flavor/frosting, has somewhere from 200 to 250 calories

The "wild berry" kind are pretty good.

Personally I don't like to stray outside the realm of strawberry, cherry, or brownsugar/cinnamon though.

I can't believe they still market these things as a breakfast food. I don't know about you, but I can't remember the last time I've eaten chocolate chip cookie dough for breakfast...

Dude you might as well get a syringe and just inject yourself with maple syrup or some thing. That's how much sugar pop tarts have in them. Nothing like a sugar rush to start the day off. :D

Oh yeah.. anybody else remember when poptarts were BIGGER too? (same can be said for Snickers bars, etc)

Poptarts used to come 6 in a pack, and they were all big enough that one could normally satisfy you.. but then they downsized em to about 2/3rds the normal size :(

Call me crazy, but for the fruit ones I never liked them frosted. Give me a strawberry poptart w/o frosting and I'm happy. Give me a strawberry poptart w/ frosting and I'll give it back.

sorry, train. the only way that you can get back to the classic goodness is to go for the walmart or kroger brand if you want the old school tarts. but even then, they don't taste as good as the originals.

    first choice: frosted strawberry
    second choice: smores
third choice: frosted brown sugar cinnamon

I'll try any pop tart, but it's got to be frosted. That's my only request.

    naw

    that aint true

I just picked up a box of the normal brand that had frosted cherry and frosted blueberry in it at Sam's

I am kinda like Ralph Malph up there...I rarely stray from the berry varieties...except for the cinnamon brown sugar ones.

and as for you health nuts....has it occured to yall that some of us dont give a crap about how bad they are for us?

You only get one life....enjoy it best you can. :D
