Looking at Artests performance for Indiana in game one againt Miami - and reading all the chatter about Brand on this board - took me back to 1999 when living in Chicago I was trying to remain a Bulls fan while they were in Rebuiding Phase I -

Krause drafted Brand and Artest in 1999.

At one time the Bulls were sitting on Brand Artest and Brad Miller!!!

That would have been an acceptable front line for many teams.

But Krause and Tim Floyd threw it all away in Rebuilding II!

Traded away Brand for Tyson Chandler and misc in 2001

Traded away Artest and Miller and misc to Indiana for Jalen Rose and misc. in 2002

Any wonder Bulls are still in the gutter?

Yeah, I've been thinking that, too. When I see Brad Miller, Ron Artest, and Elton Brand playing for other teams, I think that they were once together on the Bulls....and how the Bulls screwed that up.

It's funny, Krumbs Krause was soooo eager to rebuild the Bulls to stay competitive thus not extending Jackson's, Jordan's or Pippen's contracts and yet he actually did with Brand/Miller/Artest but then threw them away for the glitz and promise of two 7 foot HS players. Amazing that he actually DID do the rebuilding with the first group but then pissed it away. The team is in shambles now. No wonder Krause retired!

I agree that the team seems to be in shambles.

In one area they have probably been doing pretty good.

    Revenue and profit.

After terminating the staff and players that brought the glory in 1998 - the Bulls continue to sell tickets at one of the highest rates in the NBA - and have maintained one of the lowest payrolls for players and staff in the league during that period.

I wonder if their moves since 1998 to go for younger players (such as the Brand for Chandler deal) and inexprienced coaches wasn't motivated by a desire to soak up some cash from their glory years when they had a huge player and staff payroll with Jordan, Pippen, other vets and Phil Jackson and his staff.

I wonder if the current group of young players will make it through the summer without being traded - seems like a team of players which includes Chandler, Curry, Crawford and Henrich should be producing more wins that they are especially in the east.

They have youth - size - speed - all the ingredients at key positions. Maybe too much youth and not enough effort, experience or confidence.

I think Henrich or Crawford may be the oldest of those at 21/22 - if they bust 'em up - the may be making the same mistake again.

What's crazy is if you think about it - with all the youth - they have a 20% chance to get the 1st pick in the 2004 draft!!!

If they don't start to turn things around people are going to start making Chicago Clippers jokes!!!

Maybe a few years down the road, we'd be thinking aloud, "Wow, Chandler, Curry, Crawford and Heinrich were once on the Bulls together. They'd be contending in the East had they not traded those guys away." ;)

Lest we forget, for the 2000-01 season, they had those three guys and Jamal Crawford...

Of course, as a Kings fan, I'm quite happy that Krause has a short attention span; his loss is our gain...

Right - Brad Miller is the forgotten man. Not by Kings fans - but by nearly everyone talking about outstanding coaching this year - because - Carlisle's improvement at Indiana - was done without Brad Miller - so he did more with less!

Yeah, if it was for Pippen that team would have been something!

    Yes, they've been together.
And the Bulls won 15 games...

There's a difference between who Artest and Miller are surrounded with and who Brand is surrounded with.

Does that make him a looser?

    Or not a winner?

His teams did pretty good at Duke.
