I am not saying that this guy we just got will be great or anything like that but he seems to fit our system wish is one that requires a big guy that can score beyond 10 ft. and our newest 7footer can... lets give the guy a chance before everyone starts to jump ship !!!!!!!!!! repeat after me ..... let him prove himself! ------------------ "Why can't we just get along"...quote from a scientist in Half-life 2nd edition.
I'm with you. I trust Rudy and his staff, and I think the picks may work out as well as any of the Rox other options. ------------------
I will let him prove himself but I ain't holdin my breath.........by the way this pic really scares me <img src=http://208.188.89.239/images/draft/Jason_Collier.jpg> I wont be betting any sleep now!!!!!!! ------------------ I'm tha hip hop attracta, rapper slash acta, right back at cha!
Robert Horry was a role player that fit well in a system that focused on a future Hall of Famer. Now I'm told the Rockets are going to a run and gun offense utilizing the talents of Cuttino, Anderson, and Franchise, how does a soft Center with a perimeter game fit in? I'm sure the Rocket's staff has a plan, but can someone explain it to me? After both Miller and my personal favorite Johnson were off the board I just knew Mosio was a lock. This was a really depressing draft, I hope the Rockets pick up a decent free agent or two, if not I do believe it's back to the lottery. ------------------ This is JUST my opinion, chill out people!!!
Chan, we have as much right to disagree with you as you do to grouse about the Rocket's actions. This guy is not a soft 5, he's a very large, sweet-shooting 4. That's a big difference. ------------------ There are 3 kinds of people: those who can count and those who can't.
This has been the worst draft I've seen for the Rockets. I don't really understand why the Rockets picked up the human stick called Langhi. Najera and a pick, that is a waste. Collier is more of a forward than center. But he lacks the physical play and speed of a NBA PF. At least those were my impressions of him when I saw him play. I think the Rockets just drafted who they thought was the best available at #9 since all the players they wanted were gone. Then they made a trade with the Bucks to try and get someone they thought would fit the system better. I can't explain the r****ded trade for Langhi. Rockets blew it this year. They had a bunch of players available for the #9 and #38. There is no way these guys are going to contribute. With no new blood, the Rockets will have roughly the same record, perhaps a bit better. Which means they will get another 9-11 pick in the draft next year, unless they somehow trade or sign a promising young talent before the season. I hope the Rockets have something up their sleeve because this draft was a bust. ------------------
I'm agreeing...this draft sucked. Such possibilities, and in the end, a huge letdown. I'm so depressed over this I didn't want to get up this morning. Get used to sucking Rockets, cause that's what's going to happen next year barring any huge free agent signings this summer. ------------------ He who stands for nothing will fall for anything.
You have to have some good role players you cannot have just stars. the rockets did as good as they could with what was Left to draft from. They needed some one that was tall and big to play the pick&roll they got that. They can have Cato under the basket while Francis,Cutino,or Shandon drive to the basket, that way they can feed the ball into Cato for the slam or backout to Collier for a shot. Think of the Utah Jazz ------------------ Let Rudy & CD stun us in the 2rd round of the draft not the first.
The likely turnout for our #9 pick is two mid round first picks (Collier this year and likely some one next year). The expectations for a #9 pick is be a first tier player. We may very well end up with two second tier players, which implies that they will start. I am not sure Collier will ever be a NBA starter. The best we can hope for is that Collier will be a marginal NBA starter (which make him a third tier player). All in all, Rudy and co traded a first tier picks for at best two second tier picks. ------------------
What possibilities? Moiso? Alexander? What? With who was left, Rudy T and Co. did what they felt was best. Now if they had passed on Johnson and Miller I can understand this inane feeling around the board that the world has come to an end. The fact of the matter is that we did what we could after the chips had fallen. ------------------ "Go to hell Costas"-Dave Nelson after sweeping the ABSCAs on NewsRadio visit www.swirve.com
The run and gun won't work unless you have big men that rebound. Barkley is gone so we don't have a consistent 12+ rpg guy. Kenny gets boards but he isn't a rebounding machine like Barkley, Rodman, etc. Cato is a underachiever when it comes to rebounding. Hakeem is old. I don't see Collier being a force inside either. So with the current available players the run and gun will either have us competing or being blown out (this occured several times last year). By the way, I rather have Pryzbilla, Moiso, Nigerian guy, or Magloire than Collier. At #38 the Rockets could have drafted Porter, Nigerian guy, Carrawell, Jabari Smith, Corey Hightower, or Ernest Brown. IMO these guys can contribute right away. Langhi needs serious help in the weight room. ------------------
Collier is a good rebounder. Averaged over 9 in college. He should be able to get 7 a game with solid PT in the pros. The answer is to trade Walt for Danny Fortson. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
What do Dickerson, Drew, Turkcan, KT (?), Cuttino, Cassell, Collier, and Langhi have in common besides being drafted by the rockets? Excellent FT%. Rudy has always been HUGE on spacing. He doesn't draft players that don't need to be guarded. Double negative, but screw it. The rockets didn't get hurt last year by poor FT shooting, but teams like the Knicks punish people with their deadeye FT%. If everyone made all their FTs, NY wouldn't have made the playoffs. If Collier plays center agianst Mourning, Mourning would tear him to shreds. But without Mourning under the basket, Francis destroys Hardaway and Carter. Offensively. I have no problem with Collier or Langhi. Defensively, I don't have a problem with their height. Teams are going to have to take it to the basket against them. I am praying for a mad Dog in the middle. Maybe we can give Cato rabies. In Cato I trust?
The poor free throw shooting by the Rockets cost us a lot of games last year as I recall. I don't think we'll see Langhi in the roster come opening day. Collier is okay but he isn't going to be much of a help except when Rudy wants to play hack-a-Shaq. ------------------
Perhaps getting Langhi means teams are interested in Bullard? Langhi won't be playing in Europe. You don't trade for a guy that you don't think will have a slot on your roster. ------------------ The more lefties on your team, the better. Collier is Seven Foot and Left Handed. How can you go wrong? Trade or bench Kenny Thomas.
You can't rate this move until you see who we get with the Buck's pick next year. If the Rocks could have moved up without selling the farm, I think they would have. Joel P for Jason C and a first round pick. Next year the Rocks will have 2 first round picks in a deep draft. Even more if the Pistons and Magic come accross. If Jason gets us a better player than Pryzbilla next year, the Rockets Staff will have pulled something off. Sometimes it is just smoke and mirrors. If our 2 picks have anthing to offer, Rudy and Co. can help them develop it. These 2 kids have a chance to play in the NBA. They landed with one of the best teams possible for them. We didn't hurt ourselves in this draft. We are not the only team that didn't get Darius Miles. Will the Clips hold on to him? Doubt it. ------------------
I think that the Rockets wanted to have a 1st rounder next year. We owe ours to Vancouver in the next 2 years, right? You don't want to wait and have to give it in the 3rd year, because a situation like the Spurs had when they got Duncan could occur. What if the Spurs were forced to give up that pick? The Nets and Magic will be much improved and may make the playoffs. The Bulls will be better if they make some moves in free agency. The Raptors will slip out of the playoffs perhaps, but the Bucks are not a lock. The pick might not be half bad. I would have rather kept joel P and tried to move Cato/Drew for a 4, or move Joel P and Drew for a PF. ------------------ - Beck Dream...bring back the goggles
