The NBA split up into 6 divisions? I wonder why the NBA is not discussing relignment? I relignment become reality, I hope the Timberwolves get put in the same division with Big D, SA, and H-Town. See, I'm a Timberwolves fan living in Texas. The Timberwolves will visit Texas more than they already do. I can go to more games in Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio every time they play the Timberwolves. ------------------ North Star, Minnesota Stadium Advocate
The NBA has no reason to realign. If it did we would not neccisarily play the teams in our division more. ------------------ "banging Shaq is a whole different expirience"-Pete Babcock Behold the power of quotation
Ummm...Last time I checked Minnesota was still in the Midwest Division. Houston, Dallas, and SA are still in the Midwest Division. Why would there be a need for an unbalanced schedule? There is nothing wrong with the NBA schedule. You play every East team twice, and every West team 4 times. ------------------ Give Cedric the damn ball
Why do we even need devisions and Conferences? Just let all the teams play and then choose the teams with the 16 best records and put them in two different brackets. That way we know the best teams are in the play-offs and we have a better chance at seeing the two best teams in the championship game. ------------------
Spoken like a true Rockets fan Crash. ------------------ "banging Shaq is a whole different expirience"-Pete Babcock Behold the power of quotation
Confrences are cool, and I think they are needed. But why do we need divisions? Everyone plays the same in each. ------------------ "Where there is a will ... I want on it."
I can only think of one reason that we might need a conference...to help pick teams for the all star game. Big Deal. ------------------
Unbalanced schedule and traveling Right now we play the eastern teams just twice and the western teams 4 times. Do you suggest that everyone plays everyone an equal amount of times? If so how many times? We're talking 100 game schedules if we play everybody 4 times. Also it makes traveling easier if the teams on the west coast don't have to face the east coast 4 times. Divisions do appear less important however. ------------------ So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking, Racing around to come up behind you again. The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.
Every team plays every other team 3 times. East Coast and West Coast teams would have to make one extra trip to the other side of the country every other year. With the NBA being a Billion Dollar industry and every team either owns or charters their own plane travel is not that big an issue anyway. Remember road trips are normally 3 to 4 games so its not as if you are actually adding that many 3.5 hour flights anyway. ------------------
The NBA has a good schedule, and I like the East West format. The best 8 teams in each conference make the playoffs anyway so doing away with divisions is understandable, but division races make the game more interesting. Division winners are guaranteed the top 2 seeds. It's something to play for. ------------------ Give Cedric the damn ball
Remove conferances and instead of playing for one of 8 play-off spots you play for one of 16 spots. In this format the two best records are givin the top 2 seeds. The only real diference is that the best 16 teams would be in the play-offs instead of a scenario that we have now where teams that might not even be one of the best 20 teams are in the play-offs. ------------------
I see what you're saying. It would be cool to have a NBA Sweet Sixteen, but its unlikely the NBA would ever get rid of the East West format. I don't like the idea of each team playing each other 3 times. For example, lets say the Rockets played twice in Charlotte. I don't think Hornets fans are gonna be racing to the box office to see the Rockets. And also the Rockets played twice in Salt Lake City. Rockets fans would lose out on the opportunity to see their hated rival twice in Houston. Under the current format, a lot of deserving teams don't make the playoffs, but overall its working. ------------------ Give Cedric the damn ball
Look at the NHL. They split into 6 divisions, 3 in each conference. Each team should play a team in the other conference only once a season, play teams in their own division 6 times, and teams in other division in their own conference 4 times. The scheduling in the NHL has really worked out. I just wish that the NHL would have intra-conference schedules to enable more division rivalries. You know like MLB in the pre-interleague play days. My Midwest Division Minnesota Dallas Houston Memphis San Antonio Perhaps relignment could boost attendence with more rivalries. If you lived in Minnesota, do you really want to go a game to see the Hawks or the Cavs? ------------------ North Star, Minnesota Stadium Advocate
I agree with that statement. I don't think the NBA or any other pro sports league will ever do away with conferences. ------------------
Here is how the NBA might look under the NHL format: WESTERN CONFERENCE Midwest Dallas Houston Minnesota Milwaukee or Chicago San Antonio Pacific West Clippers Lakers Sacramento Golden State Phoenix Northwest Utah Denver Portland Seattle EASTERN CONFERENCE Central Toronto Indiana Chicago or Milwaukee Detroit Cleveland Atlantic New York Boston Philadelphia New Jersey Washington South Atlanta Charlotte Orlando Miami Memphis The Rockets would play 24 division games, 36 conference games, 15 other conference games = 75 games. Currently, the Rockets play 24 division games, 28 conference games, and 30 other conference games. I prefer the current format because it allows each team to have one home game against a team from the other conference. ------------------ Give Cedric the damn ball
The Timberwolves Texas road schedule. November Sat. 3 at Houston 7:30 December Sat. 15 at Dallas 7:30 February Mon. 4 at San Antonio 7:30 Tue. 19 at Dallas 7:00 (TBS) Thu. 21 at Houston 7:30 Sat. 23 at San Antonio 7:30 With realignment set up the way I want it to,... Midwest Division Minnesota Dallas Houston Memphis San Antonio ...the Timberwolves would visit Texas 3 more times. Minnesota has a great rivalry with San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston. ------------------ North Star, Minnesota Stadium Advocate

There's already an Central Division, in the Eastern Conference. Geographicly, Chicago, Milwaukee, Cleveland, Indiana, and Detroit would be in the Central Division. Houston would remain in the Midwest Division with Minnesota, Dallas, Memphis, and San Antonio. ------------------ North Star, Minnesota Stadium Advocate
