That was beautiful. That sums up almost everything that annoys me about (some) Christians in general.
Number 4 really annoys me at times. I've come across people who do that, and I'm not saying it applies to all (I don't know if it's specifically true) but I seem to come across a lot of people who nit pick at my religion and ignore this.
you never hear about the 99.999999999999% of Christians that don't make the news because they're normal people who go to Church, love their God and their people, and help the community. why? because it's not a good media story. CNN didn't decide to show the segment on the reborn Christian, they did the segment on the Pastor that molested a kid. /thread enjoy lambasting the rotten apples shown by the media, because clearly if one is bad, then they all are, according to cynics.
The same can be said about muslims, or any group. The media always show the bad apples. but that doesn't stop many people to have a negative idea on Muslims, or people from Iran etc.. Some of these points are accurate for many of the christians (or any religion) I know, especially point 10.
I know it doesn't stop them, and it never will. I said what I said so that maybe one or two people might stop b****ing about these "Annoying Christians that ruin my life," and yes, you are right that there are people that fit into some of those categories, but place those people amongst the masses and there is no comparison..
I think we completly agree. People should just respect each other, It doesn't matter if they are christian, muslim, jewish or atheist etc. And people defenitly shouldn't judge large groups because of a few individuals. every group has some rotten apples.
This is so wrong about genuine Christianity- 10. We acknowledge even point out that there are many gods, we just make a distinction between the God of the bible and all the others. The bible points out that there are other gods. And I never feel outraged when someone denies the existence of God it is encouraging and exciting, it gives me hope that there can be dialogue. 9. It does not insult me to hear we evolved from lesser life forms. Why would it? Some people believe we die and come back as lesser life forms, some believe we are entertwined with ancestoral spirits, some believe we are born with a divinity within, some believe that life cannot be explained but they are absolutely certain that it is a product of non-living compounds. What people believe doesnot upset a Christian. Religious people may get upset, but most religious people are not Christians. 8. I've never laughed at a polytheist, if you are brought up that way what else are you going to believe? The word trinity in not in the Bible, but most Christians have no problem understanding that God is a Father, was incarnate on earth as a Son and there is a Divine Spirit. 7. Well, bringing judgment against people for atrocities is not a Christian responsibility except as the laws of the land are enforced righteously. No Christian rejoices in atrocities nor does a real Christian focus on one group or religion or sect. If children are kidnapped sold into child p*rnography or prostitution, or if there is religous or political genocide obviously that is wrong. As God judges the wicked, in righteousness, truth, moral excellence and justice we shall let Him answer for that. As the bible says if He is as a potter and we are as clay in a potter's hands, should the clay know it all? The only question we should ask ourselves about the old testament is why God didn't destroy the whole human race; the people including 'his own, the Jews' were wicked and evil. It is not amazing to me that God destroyed tribes or people groups, it is amazing to me that he spared some. 6. You must watch alot of Christian TV if you see Christians laughing alot in a mocking way. Christians believe in the supernatural. God did some miracles. I laugh at some of the things I see Christians do more than I laugh about other religions. 5. I have spent my life raising 5 kids and loving people. What are little loopholes? Are you reading the bible or crazy Christian websites? 4. Christians believe that God will judge the wicked righteously and forgive the humble and lowly sinner who believes that Jesus suffered for all men's sins. We also believe that Christians who are hypocrites will suffer the greater righteous judgment. 3. Modern science, biology, physics etc have convinced me of many things, even concerning God. Rolling around and speaking in tongues is nothing Jesus did and I don't recall anyone rolling around in the bible and speaking in tongues; so if a genuine Christian is doing it let's leave it between them and God. 2. Getting Christians to pray earnestly with faith and love is the hard part. Getting God to answers prayers of faith and love is easy. 1. Good sermon. OK- that's off the top of my head, please respond. Thanks for a good thread.
If I had the time I would make an awesome poster about Annoying Atheists and Agnostics who treat all of Christianity like we are 7th Day Adventists when they Haven't even read all of the Church Councils or the Cathecism of the Catholic Church. That would be a fair poster, correct? Or is the goal of the poster to try and get Christians to think harder about their faith? Methinks it's just a poster to bash on Christians, nothing more.
I can't imagine starting a thread merely to bash another person's faith with misconceptions and generalizations. Thanks for sharing.
My 2 cents... its sad but many of these points are true. im a christian. as far as science goes, i tend to side with scientists bc the Bible was not meant to be a science text book. there are many christians who choose to take the Bible as law even with respect to science. and thats their perogative. but over the years i have come to the conclusion that some of the events presented in the Old Testament were either 1) poem/myth passed down to explain an event 2) an actual event did occur. it can be proven to have occured scientifically. the authors did not understand the science behind the event and tried to explain the event as best as they could. 3) mis-translation that has been passed down through the years. However, Science can not prove the existance of God, nor spirits, nor ghosts, nor aliens... It can only explain things that can be observed and quantified. So in this respect science should not be taken as religion... As far as religious history goes, all religions have bones in their closets. you'll always have zealots who misinterpret. a hand full of zealots can make an entire religion look bad. look at how Bin Laden is making Islam look. to say Christians are intolerant and hypocritical is a little unfair. We are still human and are prone to mistakes (sometimes very big mistakes). but if you only look at those mistakes, then of course Christians are going to look like total jack asses. point #1 is quite embarassing but also very true. The majority of Christians or those who claim to be Christian have not fully read the Bible nor have they read up on the history of our faith. Atheists and Agnostics may know a lot about the Bible but it doesnt mean they understand Christianity. Anyone can spit out facts that may shock or disgust but that does not mean theyre an expert on something. Ive mulled over point #2 quite a lot. Christians have faith that God controls everything. I think point #2 is a little misleading. A prayer has to be distinguished between whether or not what is being asked for is really Gods will or not. Id say the majority of the time, whats being asked for is out of selfishness and not out of wanting to do God's will... Christians pray but we also understand that God helps those who help themselves. Also we must understand that God isnt going to give you everything you want. If he did, then we'd all become spoiled brats. Jesus said that on judgement day there will be many "Christians" waiting to enter heaven but He will say "Who are you? I dont know you." You can call yourself a Christian all you want but on judgement day God will determine who is Christian and who is not.
But isn't that what a lot of Christians do? I am not trying to be rude or hateful but really some (a lot actually) Christians like to bash other people's faith, lifestyles, etc. with misconceptions and generalizations as well. You are one of the rare ones who make me question my own beliefs though.
Madmax is a Christian, genuine, (except when the Astros are on a long losing streak ) EDIT- come to think of it, to be accurate, I've seen him be a Christian through sports thick and thin, so I retract- he's a friend and the real deal.
haven't we done enough Obama, McCain, Hillary, Bush in D&D this week lets get on the religion thing or all go to the hangout and talk music
