Reality http://www.gulf-times.com/site/topi...o=86784&version=1&template_id=44&parent_id=24 Murder of Bangladeshi judges was ‘Allah’s will’ Publish Date: Thursday,18 May, 2006, at 12:31 AM Doha Time DHAKA: A militant leader accused of waging a bloody bombing campaign to impose Islamic laws in Bangladesh told a court he ordered the murder of two judges because it was Allah's will, police said yesterday. "The judges were murdered at the instruction of Allah. We should be rewarded, not punished for following the order of killing judges," Shaikh Abdur Rahman was quoted as saying by investigating officer Munshi Atiqur Rahman. Authorities have accused Rahman's Jamaatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) of staging a series of bombings, many of which targeted the judiciary. At least 28 people, including lawyers, policemen and four suicide bombers, have been killed since last August in the attacks. "Those who are engaged in man-made courts, especially lawyers, police and judges, will be punished in the court of Allah," added Rahman, who was appearing in court in the southern town of Jhalokathi on Monday. "Murder to those who are against Allah's law," he was quoted as saying. The group wanted to overturn the country's existing secular legal system dating back to the British colonial period and replace it with Islamic law. Rahman was arrested earlier this year and is now standing trial for his alleged role in the killing of two judges at Jhalokathi last November. Following the blasts, Bangladesh Prime Minister Khaleda Zia conceded that her government, a four-party Islamist-allied coalition, had failed to spot the danger posed by Muslim militants and she vowed to root them out. Khaled Saifullah, one of JMB's seven-member ruling council who is also being tried in the case, told the court he led the team that planted the bombs. "I have finished my task by leading a squad to kill the judges according to the instructions of Abdur Rahman," he said, according to police. - AFP
Just have to love how people trying to get into power and take the world back to the 9th century say it is "Allah's, or God's will" Yeah, whatever dude ! Religion is just one big ole screwed up difference of opinion. DD
What's the solution to this, Gwayneco? You post all of these articles, but you never propose a solution. Do you want to invade Bangladesh? Coming from a Bangladeshi, if Junior puts his mind to it, he might be able to win this one.
No need to invade Bangladesh. We just have to wait for the consequences of global warming to take out that country.
Or a major cyclone (hurricane). Or if India and Pakistan ever decide to duke it out, I'm pretty sure we'll disintegrate in the process
The rise of islamic extremism in what was once secular Bangladesh is a major concern, especially to religious minorities in the country. Those religious minorities that werent wiped out by the genocidal campaigns of the pakistani army in 1971 are increasingly threatened today. There is also a rise in the number of islamic extremists from bangladesh being used to carry out terrorist attacks in India. another article on the rise of extremism in bangladesh:
There should be a multinational hit squad that works for a World governing body that watches the world's organizations, and if any of them start killing people for religious purposes, a multinational hit squad starts taking out the leaders. Watch how quickly all this killing for fundamentalism dies out. When the leaders themselves are at risk, few are willing to take it to the radical level. DD
^with respect to Prof. Sumit Ganguly. I took a class with him at UT and the guy is an Indian nationalist. He is quick to point out what's wrong with Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, but less inclined to do so with India....He doesn't even talk about Indian human rights abuses in Kashmir for example nor did he ever discuss the pogroms against Muslims in Gujarat. He even threatened to kick me and another student out of class for bringing up these issues and he would freak out anytime somebody would discuss Hinduism and say that he wasn't interested in an ideological debate
I don't know enough about SW Asia to comment on your statement. I know that there are a lot of injustices there in relation to political issues and people tend to fall back on religion as a result. I was simply commenting on the author of the article above.
Well, I've noticed the last 2-3 times either myself or someone else posted an article that he didn't particularly enjoy, he would go on a similar rampage. It's quiet hilarious, actually
