I don't think he will be able to do it.

And furthermore, i think that his lack of contribution is the sole reason we will probably not make the playoffs this year. before the season started i think we all envisioned cato being a big part of the rockets and we could make the playoffs. its just not happening and the playoffs therefor wont either.

Yeah, its kind of hard to contribute when you are on the IR with a high ankle sprain for the majority of the first half of the season.

That being said, it would have been nice to see him get some minutes versus the Jazz the other night. He was dressed. He must still be hurt since Rudy didn't play him.

Nonsense. If Cato plays every game from here on, he only needs to average 15.5 boards a game for the rest of the season (assuming the other rebound leaders stay the same). He should easily be able to do that, since he averaged 6 a game last season.

A week or so ago, Cato said that he was about 85%. I think by now, he is almost completely healed. He was ready to go against the Jazz, but I think part of the reason Rudy dint play him is cuz Cato needs to regain his playing condition as well as learn the offensive/defensive plays. He should be back pretty soon.

Another little info on Cato, remember how he said during the time he had the high ankle sprain he spent most of his time in the weight room.

Well, while watching the game against the Jazz I was watching and when they were leaving to go to commercial after Houston had called a time out; Cato stepped out on the floor and was rubbing his arms.

He then lifted his sleaves and it was to my suprise he was pretty ripped and had batter muscle tone then at the beginning of the season.

I was pretty pleased because I hope he bulked up some; so when we play the Lakers in the playoffs he can totally dominate Shaq.

    But that's just wishful thanking.

DaryleWard, put down the pipe. [IMG] Even if he bulked up, Cato couldn't come close to dominating shaq or even acie earl.

S_F_R: Notice what DaryleWard actually said about Kelvin's tone... I guess that sort of condition can be a result of not exercising properly and eating too many donuts and fried chicken.

Was that a joke or WHAT? Friggin Cato misses a month with a darn ankle sprain... unbelievable. Karl Malone could break his foot today and still drop 20 pts on someone tomorrow.

Cato has the potential to control Shaq. He is a shot blocker. Shaq doesn't appear to use a lot of fakes like Dream. So Cato, if disciplined, might be able to control Shaq. But as well know, Cato has trouble with discipline and banging bodies.

As far as leading the league in rebounding...that's possible as well, because nobody on the Rockets can get a rebound except for Francis. Problem being, Cato has never had the instincts for rebounding. Likely never will. It takes total commitment.

I don't know if you did your homework on this one. Shaq is not beaten nor controlled by shot-blocking or a shot blocker. Sure, he may get his shot blocked every now and then, but that is not at all what gives him problems. Actually, he rarely gets his shot blocked anyway, due to his size, but more importantly, his strength. He creates so much space down low, it is very difficult for anyone to get a block.

Shaq is LESS EFFECTIVE (I will use this term because rarely is he controlled or contained) when he has to guard someone. If he is made to work on defense, he is less effective offensively. That is why the Blazers had some success with Sabonis taking him away from the basket and making him defend on the perimeter. Same thing would have, and did to a certain degree with Smits (although Smits seemed to lose his shot and play terribly at times).

To date, I don't think I have seen anyone become very effective at stopping Shaq, but the closest I have seen are Sabonis, Smits, and Dale Davis.

I can't argue with that. I'm just talking about trimming his points down by 4 or 5. That's my idea of controlling Shaq. There's no way to intimidate him. There's no way to control him. Even Olajuwon, who forced Shaq to play Defense, was ripped by Shaq in the Finals.

Does anybody think a Zone defense could stop him? Or would that give him open spaces to move into?

Until he starts hitting his free throws, I like the Hack-A-SHAQ approach.
