What was that? go ahead and call a flagrant foul, but throw him out?? thats crazy, he was going for the ball... And what the hell is Danny Ferry's problem? , Howard went over there to check on anderson and tell him he was sorry or something and that idiot pushes howard away, Ferry has seriously become a goon. I hope anderson isnt seriously hurt by the way. ------------------ http://www.democrats.com mgh 1925-2001

That wasn't a intentional foul definitely. He didn't grab Derek Anderson's arm or anything like that it was just a mistake on his part that hopefully wasn't a serious mistake. As for Danny Ferry, I've never cared much for him. Why he did that was beyond me but he possibly could have made a bad situatino worse, if that is possible. ------------------ See the three, be the three.
All of this is extremely unfortunate and in the heat of battle. Juwan didn't want to hurt anyone. When he went to check on the player, Derek's teammates simply reacted with anger as any of us might do. But the truth is the truth: Danny Ferry is and has always been a jerk. Word is, Derek Anderson has a separated shoulder and is out for 3 to 6 weeks. San Antonio might have just lost out on the chance for a title. ------------------
i disagree, he wasnt doing much for them anyways. i really hope he comes back, because i dont want spurs fans saying they lost because anderson was out. and yes freak he probably should of got a flagrant foul because he did foul him pretty hard , but if you saw the replay you can see he went for the ball, and was not trying to hurt him. ------------------ http://www.democrats.com mgh 1925-2001
I like the Spurs and Mavs both, but ejecting Howard for that was a complete and utter joke. Howard was trying to stop the play, and he was not doing it with any intent to injure Anderson or to be malicious. Because Anderson got so high and because he fell so hard and got injured, the officials overreacted AGAIN to the looks of the situation. If the Spurs do win this game, imho it is tainted somewhat, due to them playing a team without one of its key players for no reason at all. ------------------ President of the Mo Taylor, Jason Collier, and draft Richard Jefferson fan club! I don't think it was flagrant. It would be like Barkley accidently hurting Jordan, or Dream accidently hurting Clyde. Juwan and Derek are good friends. No way would he try to injure the guy. Even Derek Anderson said that that! The Spurs will still beat LA if they get there though. ------------------ See the three, be the three.
Tainted shmainted. Give me a break. They didn't have Nowitski for a huge stretch of the game because he decided to try and play defense and collect fouls faster than Kelvin Cato does splinters. The Mavs have 3 starters that are very good-to-all star players even without Howard. If that's not good enough for them to make a game of it, then they've got problems. San Antonio got some calls, but then Bradley was fouling Duncan and Robinson on plays early in the game as well that didn't get called. San Antonio's ball movement was incredible and their defensive rotations in the 2nd half were excellent. There was one play I saw where the ball went around the arc among probably 4 Dallas players and the Spurs rotated with the ball to perfection. They are a complete package. Dallas just looked lost out there at times missing wide open jumpers and not having their fast break clicking. When their fast break isn't on, you hope that Nowitzki, Howard, Nash, and Finley are clicking in the half-court. But what happened instead? Let's see, Nash was nowhere to be found and played matador defense most of the night, Finley was bricking early and often, Nowitzki decided to be his apprentice in carpentry, and Juwan decided to be an idiot with the flagrant foul. Oh, but he was a mighty 2-7 shooting early before he got ejected, so they did lose that. They have only themselves to blame. Those 4 combined for 12-42 shooting. Sean Bradley was keeping them in the game in the first half for Godssake!!! It wasn't the refs that took them out of this game (unless the refs were taking jumpshots for them), it was their horrible shooting and the execution on both sides of the ball by the Spurs. Yeah, the Spurs got some calls, but not enough to make this a 20+ blowout like it technically was (until the scrubs came in). GO SPERZ!!!!! ------------------ My company declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy, then agreed to merge with another company, which also declared for Chapter 11 bankruptcy... should I be worried?
An accidental "hurting" foul can be flagrant. In my opinion he wanted it to be a hard foul and it got carried away. The foul wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't carried through with his arm. Had he been going after the ball alone, he wouldn't have kept following through with his arm across Derek's. That's what made it worse. The foul was flagrant, it was intentionally flagrant, but I'm sure he didn't want the outcome to be the way it was. He wasn't intending to hurt the guy. ------------------ My company declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy, then agreed to merge with another company, which also declared for Chapter 11 bankruptcy... should I be worried? Don't hand anything to LA yet. Bryant has to get past Doug Christie first. ------------------ women love me, fish fear me.
It's hard to say that Dallas got screwed in this altercation. Because, I mean, in this game, you can say that they did, since Howard was booted. But the Spurs have to go the rest of the series without Anderson, and the Mavs will have Howard back next game. I think it was an intentional foul just because of the NATURE of the foul, but not a type 2 that you should get thrown out for. Too bad it happens to Derek. How long do you think he's been waiting to make a deep playoff run? He's going to be hampered on that quest. Or at least, he'll be doing it from the bench. ------------------ Jazzkiller
You're right that the foul wasn't intentional. But of course he was gonna be thrown out. The foul appeared vicious, even though it wasn't, simply by the contact Anderson made with the hardwood; and the majority of 32,000 fans would have been howling for blood if Howard had been left in the game. ------------------
Didn't Francis get ejected for his hard foul on Abdul Wahad last year, where he lost part of his tooth? I remember that foul wasn't even as bad as Juwan's and Francis got thrown out, so I can see how they could throw Howard out. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited May 05, 2001).]
He had to be ejected. First off, it was a stupid foul, he damn near clotheslined him. Secondly, if you do not eject him, you will lose control of the game. Y'all saw the ruckus surrounding Anderson after he went down, if they dont eject Howard, it could have degenerated into something that wasn't basketball. I think we all recognize that Howard wasn't trying to hurt him, and Howard did apologize. ------------------ Founder and President of the Houston Homers Club(HHC) - Are you a homer? Join now! 3-6 weeks How can you possibly defend howard in this situation? A player with a 100 million dollar contract ending DA's season, where he is a FA this summer I believe; on top of that, severely deflating the titles hopes of a team they had little chance of beating. he wasn't trying to block DA's shot, or else he wouldn't have gone up with both arms. he should have realized as soon as Anderson was in the air to back off. worse off, i don't think howard is that good anyway, certainly not as valued as Anderson is. Here's hoping he gets a 3 game suspension so he can watch this sweep in street clothes, along with a certain shooting guard for the Spurs. ------------------
He was clearly going for the block, and knocked Anderson down on accident. Howard is not the type of person who would foul with the intention of injuring. That is what Malone would do, not Howard. It was an obvious accident that resulted in horrific results for poor Derek and the Spurs. ------------------ WIN NOW! The Protrolls.com message boards! Hey, I've got posts now! I was sitting in the Upper Deck behind the basket in which the play occured. IMO, Howard was not going for the ball. He was trying to foul Anderson, and a freak accident occured...Howard didn't do it intentionally. The referees didn't screw Dallas by ejecting Howard. Howard was ejected because he gave a hard foul. It didn't help his cause that Anderson was laying on the court for minutes. The referees judged the foul as unnecessary and detrimental to other players. No matter what Howard says or does I believe that he should be suspended for a minimum of 1 game. I'm afraid if Howard plays that the Spurs will retaliate. Ferry is a b*stard. That was uncalled for. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Smokey (edited May 06, 2001).]
He wasn't going for the ball, he was trying to stop DA's slam attempt. If he really wanted to foul him, and prevent a basket, he should have had his hands straight up and hit him with his body. There was no need to foul him with 2 arms. It wasn't like he was under the basket trying to go up for the layup. Though the loss of DA severely lessens the Spurs chances of winning the title, I'm not sure the league can justifiably suspend Howard for his actions. They can't prove from the tape that Howard was intentionally trying to foul him, and Howard has handled himself well since the incident, which makes a suspension that less likely. And Danny Ferry is a jerk. ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited May 06, 2001).]
Of the pro-spurs posts that I read on this board, I only agree with the one that said his ejection had to be done to keep the game in check. He played at the ball, tried to stop a score, and made no discernable move to hurt DA. It's unfortunate, but injuries do happen in athletic contact sports. It just as easily could have been a trip, or DA falling over a cameraman. I understand the anger and disappointment, but it's not fair to call for the suspension of the man simply because you want some blood. The flip side is--the Mavs are growing up before our eyes, and the next two or three games are going to be BIG character builders for the team. And we, the fans, get treated to a brand new rivalry in the league. Let's hope the refs watch Ferry *REAL* carefully next game... ------------------
