“Project?” Reed is literally the opposite of a project. I’ve always liked him because he was the only prospect in the last draft who had a truly developed, elite trait (shooting). That’s what makes him so appealing — he has a high floor and high ceiling due to possessing an elite trait. Calling him a “project” is nonsensical. He’d probably start for the majority of teams in the league.
To add to that, I like that he seemingly has no ego problems, he's willing to accept any role to help the team just like in college when he came of the bench despite being the best player on the roster.
So you think a regime who, for all intent and purposes, has absolutely nailed talent evaluation going on 4 years, got bullied into choosing Reed, a dude who was widely considered a top draft pick anyways? And all the experts, analysts, prognosticators, etc. are just wildly wrong? And in a draft full of reaches and projects somehow there were picks we could've made that would be materially better? Ok.
He has yet to show in the pros that he is elite. Shooting in the 30's percent wise is nowhere near elite. Like I mentioned in another post, you Reedlings have low expectations. Doesn't matter if he's a rook. He is still a shooter.
What disappoints me in watching him on the floor is that nobody seems to look for him. He was just out there for 6-7 minutes, and there were times when they just needed to make the extra pass (or swing it the opposite direction) to get him an open 3, yet it ends up in an Amen or FVV brick. He needs to be more aggressive, sure, but his teammates need to realize the shooter he is. Find him.
Reed isn't even looking to make a play to get himself going or to even get a shot up. He honestly looks scared to make mistakes. His confidence is at 0 right now.
Reed has had two open looks from 3 today that he has completely passed up. I'd prefer him in the G league along with Cam and for us to play Aaron at the backup 1 until Reed has enough confidence to take wide open shots. What is he here for if not that?
he aspires to be mediocre and a role player…it’s his dream in a game like tonight, he took just 2 shots not an aggressive bone in his body
Best thing to do now is send him to the G-League and force him to shoot 20 times per game while being the primary ball handler. Dudes so afraid of making mistakes that he plays below his ability. Jeremy Lin syndrome. Get him a sports psychologist and 20 shots per game.
