Let me say first that I love Amobi Okoye. No re-thinking will change my crush on the man-child. But, if you've got a chance to re-do the first round pick, who would you pick?

While we're at it, lets go back to last December and lose a few more games so we can draft Adrian Peterson

Bah, I think tanking in 2005 is the reason the Texans can't catch a break, now.

I agree. Building a defense is not a bad thing. It sucks that the team isn't winning. However, I believe you build from the defense and then worry about the offense. I'd be willing to bet that this next draft will be a majority offense, especially with the earlier picks.

Even so, was Amobi (or any DT for that matter) the best choice to build the defense? Reggie Nelson and Michael Griffin have been excellent, arguably at positions of greater need.

Just noticed: My use of commas in this thread sucks.

Amobi was the right pick at the time, but given hindsight, Tony Ugoh is the obvious choice given our OL problems.

My first one would be potentially Reggie Nelson. Sure could use a hitter, tackler and safety that can actually cover and not take up space.

Second possiblility, Ugoh or Staley, though Staley was almost the unanimous pick because of experience with the zone blocking scheme.

I think if the Texans could have done a trade down they would have gone after at least one of these possibilities.

Evenstill, Okoye was not a dumb pick and if he turns out like a young Warren Sapp, well a few years from now there will be a lot of frowns turned upside down. :)

Right now, safety position players are killing this team, followed by lack of an RB. Yep, if I knew then what I know now perhaps, losing instead winning at least one of the final two games last season to get A.D. AP would have obviously helped. Oh well ... here's hoping Echemandu isn't a flash in the pan along with all the other stiffs we've been lugging around.

Well in hind sight I would draft the starting left tackle for the Indianapolis Colts that is kicking tail protecting Peyton Mannings backside.

I dont think Ugoh is that GREAT but he's solid. Most people think he's good b/c Manning doesn't get sack and he does well run blocking. You got to remember when Manning senses pressure, he'll get rid of the ball.

Amobi, the kid has been one of the few bright spots for this team. Other than Willis and Lynch, all of the others mentioned would have been big reaches at #10. I liked Staley a lot but I guarantee that this team would have taken a ton of heat for selecting him at #10, especially if we had passed on Amobi.

i was for one trading down to get either staley or nelson. We need good players badly even at the risk of one potential great player.
