I understand that all of the trades that everyone is suggesting are just hypothetical, but the majority of them are way too far out there. People like Baron Davis(chucker), Monta Ellis(speed guy, can't play with Yao in half court), and other me-first players that are not winners are not the type of guys we need. Our team has a personality that is being developed more and more, and we cannot change that just because Ellis, Davis, and whoever are good players. I realize that these guys are good players, they just don't belong on our team. We are all expecting a T-Mac trade, but suggesting people that will definitely not fit our system is just stupid. I am all for the Joe Johnson talk, people that dont have head issues and will not take away from our team. We need people that can step into our team and not break it up. We cant just trade for people because they are good. Look at the Yankees, Cowboys, Suns for examples of teams that have been struggling because they have no identity. We just need some more talented pit bulls to surround Yao, as our former Rockets Kenny Smith puts it. The Celtics built a team quick with trades, but they traded for veterans that bought into a system and played defense. Something the guys we are mentioning are not going to do. We just need to wait it out and let Morey and our front office build the team that they think will be successful. Once again this is not NBA Live or a fantasy team, the guys have to want to play together, and we all saw that T-Mac and Ron clearly did not. Once T-Mac went down, things began to change. Lets think more about how players fit our team before we just throw their name out there. Players are available for trades for a reason
no steve nash! and no player wearing a bulls or clippers uniform, please! There's a reason these teams suck.
Just because it's ridiculous doesn't mean it can't happen. All the posters that ever proposed a KG for Jefferson to the Celtics trade are now sitting happy. Every Laker's Underground poster that laughed at the posters that posted "Let's trade Kwame for Gasol" thread, is eating crow and smiling.
Lets stop with the ridiculous dreams like giving up some late 1st rounders for an impact player like Ron Artest.
Stupid trade ideas are, unfortunately, a staple of the offseason. It's basically talk radio call ins in text form. Luckily, they are usually confined to one thread.
Ok guys, I've been on the trade machine all day and I think I finally found one that would work. ROCKETS GET: LeBron James CAVALIERS GET: Dikembe Mutumbo Tracy McGrady 2011 First Round Pick Why Rockets Do It LeBron James is one of the elite scorers of this league, and a top-flight defender. He would definitely be a great 2nd option behind Yao and could really energize the locker-room with his leadership abilities. Also, the Rockets franchise would easily become a global icon. Jersey sales would sky rocket, and ticket sales would shoot through the roof. Also, James is an expiring contract, so there is very little risk he does not work out. Why Cavs Do It Tracy Mcgrady is a perennial winner, and there is no denying it. The Cavaliers might be looking for a change of face, from an energetic, fast-paced team to a ball club that enjoys naps and has constant injury problems (Cavs' brass is really trying to up season ticket sales in the 60-70 age demographic). Dikembe is also a phenomenal leader and fans everywhere are begging for an Ilgauskas-Mutumbo partnership that would make up the most misspelled front court in NBA history. Get it done, Morey.
T-Mac I get, Ron didn't fit - are you kidding? Cause he missed some shots and had some bad shot selections hardly means he didn't fit. I guess since Shane missed his threes, Brooks didn't take it to the rack as aggressively in the games in LA, and Hayes can't make a shot to save his life they don't belong here either. For all the games Ron lost us he also won as many for us. The game in TC right after Christmas against utah (intentional lower case) was one we never would have won w/o him + a few in the playoffs. The guy brought a toughness to this team we haven't seen since Vernon Maxwell. He controlled his temper (although often tempted) and hustled. He's not perfect - none of our players are, but to say he doesn't fit is just downright stupid.
Well, the reason why there are so many stupid proposals is that most people don't really know about players' contract situation and history. Morey's MO seems to be low-risk/high-reward deals. He's pretty consistent in this regards. Which means players like Baron Davis won't work because of his gigantic contract and age. But Monte Ellis probably would assuming the Rockets are sold on his health. That said, this offseason is particularly strange because our only expiring contract is MASSIVE. So any trade we make is basically a blockbuster that results in a huge amount of salary coming back. These are really hard to pull off.
it's one thing to say it's ridiculous and far out there, it's another to say the players just dont fit. It's not the same thing. i expect some fans to to propose deals involving players that may not fit, but that's OK because no at all fans know enough about the game to know what fits and doesnt. Just tell them why you think they dont fit and leave it at that. However, if someone is suggesting we trade Brian Cook and dorsey for the #2 pick in the draft, then that's just r****ded and pretty much impossible, in other words, ridiculous and far out there, but that's not the type of example you gave. That being said, lock thread!
Pau Gasol went for kwame brown. vince carter went for nothing. Ridiculous trades do happen in the nba.
welcome to the offseason rookie, its just the 3rd day and you made a thread about it? wonder how you will react in a month....
I don't think Cavs are that stupid and plus, Deke is done with his career. If we do get Lebron James, why would he be our second option after Yao? Lebron better be our first option!
