I just ordered the first and second seasons of this show on DVD, and learned that they're currently working on a Red Dwarf movie starring the original cast!

Anybody else know/care about what I'm talking about?

Seems to be par for the course for the Dwarf. The broadcasting of the show in the states is sporadic at best... I STILL haven't seen the season that takes place in prison.

Let's just hope that Dwayne Dibley makes a big-screen appearance.

Yep, I'm definitely planning on picking up seasons 3 and 4, too, just as soon as I've picked the first two clean. I hear there are tons of extras.

Thanks for the offer, though, and I have no clue as to what regions my decrepit VCR can play...

    movie plot

RED DWARF THE MOVIE is set in the distant future where Homo Sapienoids, a fearsome combination of flesh and machine, and the next stage of human evolution, have taken over the solar system and almost wiped out the human race.

The only survivors are the crews of long-haul space freighters that left Earth before the conflict began. The Sapienoids send forth fleets of Death Ships to hunt them down. One by one - the human ships fall, until only one remains.

    Its name - Red Dwarf...

this was the latest news on the movie i could find

    October 2003
Sci-fi Online reports that filming of the Red Dwarf film has been delayed.

Despite Danny John-Jules' comment to the site that filming on the movie would commence early in 2004, the project now looks set for a May 2004 start date.

This is the official statement from Grant Naylor Productions:

"Red Dwarf - The Movie may be shot in Australia. Preliminary design work is currently underway and shooting is slated for May 2004. Crewing up has not yet begun."

Will we ever see this movie? Keep checking Cult for further updates. Meanwhile, visit the BBCi Comedy Red Dwarf website.

if it gets filmed in aus might have see if i can get a role as an extra

I started rewatching this from the beginning and it's not as funny the second time around. Either that or my tastes have changed in the past ten or so years. How many seasons did the show last? I think I'm up to season three via Netflix.

    Smeg,

I've noticed that Aussie/Kiwi shows have series instead of seasons. Does 1 series correspond to one year's worth of episodes, and therefore it is just a difference in the terminology, or is it accounted differently down under?

I don't know this red dwarf, but I'm sure my elf cleric from my dungeons and dragons days back in high school would have kicked his ass!

Elven cleric?? Pffft... That char's thac0 must have been very puny indeed. You'd probably have to roll a 17+ on a d20 just to touch the dwarven fighter and that doesn't even take into account any AC penalties or dex variations. You probably don't even have the str to wear plate mail! What are you gonna do? Cast "cure light wounds"? Oooooooohh... scary! The dwarf would destroy you.
