i couldn't find this in the game thread - at least on the last few pages, so i'd mention it here: apparently the rockets-wolves just combined for the lowest turnover game in history. they each had 5 - (actually rocks had only 4 for regulation) so the total was 10, and according to NBA.com the previous record was 12... ---- http://www.nba.com/history/records/regular_turnovers.html Fewest turnovers, both teams, game 12-Cleveland (6) at Boston (6), March 7, 1993 ------ who would have thought that the rockets would ever be involved in a record for lowest turnovers...
Sweet. The Rockets are such a better ballhandling team this year. Plus wasn't one of those turnovers a relatively bogus travelling call on Yao - everybody in the NBA travels like that.
27 assists and only 5 turnovers. That's not the kind of stat we would have seen from the Rockets last year. Taking care of the ball and rebounding (offensive) are huge for this team.
when yao gets rid of that stupid power dribble that takes him nowhere we will cut our TO'PG in half. he should just turn and shoot. no dribble. get good position before the catch and then just shoot damn it.
I think Yao is learning that, I see more catch and shoot from him and he seems more aware of the traffic when he does put the ball on the floor. I was impressed with Yao against the Wolves, looked like a different Yao out there, his footwork, rhythm, speed and aggressiveness just seemed better yesterday.
i agree. he was on the attack, yet composed. if only he could stay right there mentally the rest of his career. instead, he will fluctuate the rest of the season and drive us mad.
I so agree about the pointlessness of his dribbling. Does anybody believe he's going to move anywhere bouncing the ball before his defender does? It's a tossup which is slower: the ball traveling 5 feet to the floor and 5 back (or not if it gets slapped), or the step he tries to take while doing it. All he does is ruin any move he had in mind. Just turn and shoot, or take a step laterally and hook it.
Lots of guys who ball arent comfortable with catch and shoot. The dribble puts them into the flow of shooting the ball. Its just more pronoucned cuz its a 7'6" guy doing it
I think Yao is trying to get deeper position to improve his chance by dribbling. It works against single defender, but he has trouble reacting to double teams.
If someone told me last year that the words: Rockets, turnovers, NBA history were all in one sentence the last thing that would enter my mind is fewest. Goes to show how far the team has come since making the trades last summer and this season. The chemistry is starting to develop and when Yao and Tracy really start to know each other its going to be hella scary. Thats how scary its going to be, I used to word hella.
I bet T-Mac is almost dislocating his shoulder as he gives himself pats on the back for moving to Houston. He made the right choice, and he knows it now.
