I have a small apartment-style a/c unit (not a window unit) in the building behind my house that I use for an office and rehearsal space. The motor is burned out.

I need to find an independent contractor willing to replace the motor without doing all the work to take it out of the ceiling and put it back. That will take a few hours both ways and I'm going to do that with help from my neighbor.

The cost is just too high to have one person do all of that start to finish (the estimate has been $500-$700) considering all it needs is a motor that cost about 100 bucks.

    Any suggestions?

My friend's dad has had his own A/C business for about 10 years now. I'm a little biased, but they do pretty solid work. As far as the pricing goes, I can't say for certain. If you're interested, let me know and I'll pm you their number.

Yeah, definitely. Just email me at jbalke@tworoadsmedia.com

I should note that I'm in the Heights area, so it will need to be someone who services inside the loop (that sounded dirty :) ).

It's odd going up north where the central A/C unit is almost non-existent. It still gets as hot as summer balls, but people don't seem to care. Without central A/C in Texas, people would literally die.

I wonder when it was invented and built into homes as a standard?
