Excerpted from the December 10 entry of Yao Ming's online journal: I check out rockets.com from time to time when I'm at home. I am on the computer quite often. I chat with my friends and play computer games. But I don't get to chat as much as I would like because of the time zone differences. I really wish you the fans can give me some input on some good computer games to play. I really enjoy games such as Starcraft, Counterstrike, and Red Alert. Just send me some suggestions by clicking here {Relativist note - Yao Computer Games as subject}. I'll get the messages and then I'll talk about them in my next journal entry. Yao, as per your request, here are some recommendations by the Clutch City BBS Hangout community on some good computer games. Feel free to drop by the Hangout Forum when inclined and chat with other Rockets fans about computer games and other topics. You may want to be careful about perusing the Game Action forum as fans tend to be passionate about the team and therefore vocal with both praise and criticism, justly and unjustly. Having noted that, welcome to the board. {Relativist's note - I will forward this thread to Yao after a certain length of time, perhaps a day or two, if it remains appropriate to do so, and will then inform everyone}
Just tell Yao to come join this BBS. We chat around the clock. Come and join us Yao: http://bbs.clutchcity.net/php3/index.php?s=
Well, it looks like Yao is a fan of FPS and RTS games. I will get DaDakota's advice out of the way and suggest Conquest:Frontier Wars (and I really do like this game). Other than that some good ones to check out are: Warcraft III, Grand Theft Auto III, Starcraft:Brood War, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, and Age of Empires II are all good games from those genres. I also like the MechWarrior series (MechWarrior 4 is the latest I think).
Yao...give Medal of Honor a shot, it's pretty decent. Also check out Ghost Recon. The games you like: Counterstrike and Red Alert are some of my favorites. You got good taste big guy.
yao, i think you'd really enjoy age of mythology and warcraft III, both great real-time strategy games. also how about nba live 2003, you can create yourself at all 99 skill-level which is probably about right anyways.
Just think about playing warcraft 3 online and you are in multiplayer and Ming is on there and u dont even know it. And then he screws up and your b****ing at him for what he did. I guess that is what is cool about online games for a famous person, they are playing and know one knows who they are. Pretty cool I never thought of that before.
Yao should definately play Battlefield 1942. It's an online game where you can play on a team of 30 people. You pick your type of soldier, you can use all the vehicles that are available, and you can use things like artillary. I havn't played because I have a lap top with an intergrated graphics card, but I know that guys here who have played love the hell out of that game, including Clutch himself if I'm not mistaken.
Battlefield 1942 is great in multiplay, I have been playing Age of Mythology since picking it up Saturday, it is awesome. I also like the Command and Conquer franchise. Then there is also the old Clutch City Warcraft group on Yahoo. And I am also anticipating the DaDakota LOTR game (which I finally got the beta demo to download and run). CK edit: Oh Yeah Freedom Force is pretty good too.
I can send him a Taiwanese version of Conquest, or a US version. I wonder if the Rocks would let me do that? DaDakota
Well I tried to edit my last post but for some reason that permission is turned off. So...I sent an email...will let you guys know what happens. I think it would be very cool if Yao played my game. It may be too tough for the rest of the team, but Yao is smart enough. DaDakota
Here is what I wrote in an email... ________________________________ Andrew & Yao Ming, I own a development Studio for PC games here in Austin Texas. I have been a Houston Rockets fan since 1972 and am very excited to have Yao on the Rockets. I read on the web that Yao would like some suggestions on video games, and that he likes games like StarCraft etc. I have a game that is out that is similar to StarCraft, only a lot better. I would love to send him a copy, but want to make sure that it gets to him. Also, would he like the Taiwanese version, or the US version? Thanks, Eric Peterson President/CEO Fever Pitch Studios Inc. www.feverpitchstudios.com 512-899-1889 voice 512-899-2672 fax ------------------------------------------------------------- Will let you guys know if I hear back. Speaking of your game. My cheap ass may finally break down and get it EB has it for a whopping $3.99 http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/categories/products/product.asp?pf_id=203568 CK P.S. in case you missed it above. I played the LOTR demo you advertised in the chat last week. Zac and I had a nice discussion on it especially when he compared it to being like C&C . Finding a path was a little rough and the lighting was somewhat dark( I assume it was due to it being a very early beta) but the characters looked good.
Castor, That is a very early demo, and is only meant to show off the environments etc. There is a PDF walkthrough that installs with it, that talks about the highlites of the demo. It is a DEMO of technology only, no story, no game play...well very little anyway. DaDakota
