My IPOD mini that I've been using for four years now looks like it's lived its last breath. What should I get? I would prefer something with video capability. I am asking because I am aware that folks in the know (based on threads on the internetz) typically recommend some products that aren't yet mainstream (ie: as opposed to the IPOD series) as superior in quality/cost. Or should i be holding out for something on the horizon? thanks.
4 gigs with video for about 100 bucks so not a bad deal. id go with this but if you have all your songs in itunes you might wanna stick with apple
what didn't you like about the iPod? Your mini lasted for 4 years, that's a strong incentive to stay with the brand.... or do you want something else just to want something else?
There are players that do more than iPods or Zunes out there, but if you're just looking to watch videos and mp3's, get decent support, and mainstream acceptance in terms of applications, tools, etc, stick to mainstream players. I'd suggest you get another iPod or Zune. Failing that, get a Creative player. I have a Zune 80GB and it's worked well, but I mainly use it for mp3's and audiobooks. It has video and FM radio as well.
I liked it but based on prior threads, I'm under the impression there's better products at a comparable cost. I could be wrong.
You can usually find 8gb sansa fuze players for less than $90. They have sound quality that is highly regarded on head-fi.org (headphone/audio supersite), an expandable high capacity micro sd slot, fm radio, video capability, and a voice recorder. I personally own one and pair it up with my Westone 3 earphones and experience audio bliss. However, I have never really tried to load videos on the player (although it does support video playback); some say that they have a somewhat difficult time converting and loading the videos on quickly. Right now I have a black 8gb fuze paired with an 8gb micro sd card and ended up paying less than $100. It's an amazing value imo. Although I haven't owned a zune, I'd probably look into that player if you would want more storage capacity. It's also regarded fairly well on head-fi. Hope you find the right player for you.
If I were getting a new one, and my experience were like yours, I'd go with the ipod touch. A bit more, but worth it in my opinion. Depends how much stuff you've got (you had a mini, so i'm guessing not that much), but with wifi, apps, etc, you will be happy with a touch, or better yet, iPhone.
I would also add, size is also very important to me. Looking the above suggestions up just now, I would assume the nano would be my best bet in that regard?
The nano is pretty minuscule, so it's probably one of the smallest players with video capability. I haven't looked up dimensions, but my fuze was just a few mm bigger in area than the nano, and a few mm thicker. To me, the size difference is negligible, but depending on what you use it for, it could make a difference. The only hold back I have against the nano is that it's sound quality isn't up to par to the sansa fuze. Many wouldn't be able to really tell a difference, but depending on what earphones/headphones you use, and the bitrate of your sound files, the sound quality difference could show quite a bit.
I got the 80 GB, but they have a 120 GB one now. They run around $230 : http://www.amazon.com/Zune-120-Vide...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1236286258&sr=8-1 Here are the retail prices for various Zunes (you can get them a bit cheaper at stores like amazon) : http://www.zune.net/en-US/mp3players/default.htm Here are some from Creative that you can look into : http://us.creative.com/products/welcomenew.asp?category=213
Dude I bought a mini Sansa 4g. Its so simple, inexpensive and does the job. I don't need to look a pictures or play video. It has radio capabilities as well. I love it because its tiny and is great for the gym.
Hey I got a 30gb Zen Vision:M [LINK] that i no longer use (replaced by my fuze). I have everything that came stock along with additional accessories: wall charger, car charger, case, and armband. Let me know if your interested.
