Because of a condition where my cornea doesn't heal properly, I'm going to need PTK to fix it.

I'm thinking of getting Lasik or PRK for both of my eyes to fix that and my vision.

    Any good recommendations in Austin?

Seconded. I know several people who elected to have their eyes lasered, and all of them went here.

I can recommend that guy as well, although he's not the most personable.

Ahhh...sex is so much better without the possibility of offspring.

This is the surgeon who did my catarac surgery, which left me with 20-20 vision. Actually, slightly better than 20-20, when taking a test with both eyes open. One came out at 20-15 and the other 20-25. That's a fantastic result, folks, and I had 20-400, with pretty bad astigmatism. While my operation was for cataracs, I would be shocked if he wasn't just as good with the various forms of lasik. Dr. Todd is young (for what he does... he says that my significant other, who's a patient, reminds him of his mother, which pisses her off, but she still loves the guy, lol!) and a great guy. Very friendly, with a great bedside manner. Here's the info:

    R. Todd Smith, M.D.

Dr. Smith was born and raised in Austin. He graduated from Westwood High School and then attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas where also played baseball. He graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry. He then attended the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, earning the degree of Doctor of Medicine with honors.

Dr. Smith knew he wanted to pursue a surgical subspecialty in medical school as he gained experience and skill in the operating room. He admired vision as a special gift and his interest in the anatomy and physiology of the visual system combined with the challenge of ophthalmic surgery made ophthalmology a perfect match for him.

Upon completion of medical school, Dr. Smith was accepted into the ophthalmology residency program at Baylor College of Medicine, an institution consistently ranked among the finest training programs in the world. As a resident he was thoroughly trained in ophthalmology and learned the latest technologies the field offers.

Dr. Smith truly values the physician-patient relationship. His primary goal is to establish a good relationship with his patients and discuss in detail the findings of the eye exam and thoroughly explain the rationale for medical and/or surgical treatment if indicated.

His interests include topical small-incision cataract surgery, glaucoma, diabetes, refractive surgery and comprehensive ophthalmology, including medical and surgical treatment of many diseases of the eye. He also provides routine eye exams for contact lenses or glasses.

Dr. Smith enjoys spending his free time with his wife and 3 children, as well as golfing, fishing, and baseball.

Very highly recommended. He can take care of any eye problem. My SO is seeing him for glaucoma, and she's doing great. Both my kids see him. The clinic is on West Anderson, by MOPAC. The same strip center that has Satay Restaurant, the Thai place. Check him out!

PS: This isn't a chain of clinics. This is the real deal, folks.

I had catarac surgery like Decard did 2 years ago they did one eye then another eye 2 weeks later. One little needle in the back of your hand and your out 20 minutes later your good. I could see stuff amazingly well the same day. I used DR Mayo. DD you are not a wimp and your insurance will pay for a lot of it.
