I'm looking for a reputable CPA in Houston to do my personal taxes.

I've done my own taxes every year - but in 2008 I began working out of my home - and I want to make sure I maximize my home office deductions as much as possible.

Rather than go to a Jackson Hewitt or H&R Block (where they take regular Joes off the street and put them through minimal training) - I'd rather go to a lifelong CPA - one that others recommend.

I live in the Galleria area - and would prefer to find someone nearby. But I'm open to traveling further out for a reputable CPA.

    Anyone have any suggestions?

No suggestions, but are you self-employed working out of your home, working out of your home for your convenience or working out of your home as directed by your employer? If you are working out of your home for an employer for your convenience, it is doubtful you can claim the deduction. Also, if you are not self-employed, I think the deduction has to be mre than 2% of your earnings.

Also, is your work area used exclusively for business? As I understand it, if you use the area for ANY personal use (e.g. mailing bills, watching TV, playing cards, etc.) you cannot use the deduction.

Yeah - i did the initial research of the applicable form (its instructions, namely)

Working out of home as directed by my employer (employer located in another state)

also the work area is exclusively used for business. i am trying to figure out the square footage situation. there is a bathroom attached to my home office that I use during business hours. I have questions like "can i count that as office square footage in determining what percent of my home is 'office space'?"

questions like that which i'd prefer to leave in the hands of an expert.

My dad is a CPA and been a lifelong accountant. He's had his private practice for over 15 years. Office is located close to 59 and Murphy. I'm sure he'll be able to get you the most money that you can possibly get. Let me know if you'd like his number.

I'm a CPA. Just give me your bank account and routing numbers. And your SSN. And make a photocopy of your house key, scan it, and email it to me through the board.

I'll save you so much, you'll wonder if I'm shady.

Impossible considering I'm the best in the business, followed closely by my father. :p
