Randy Johnson, John Rocker, Vladimir Guerrero & Matt Lawton for Pedro Martinez, Mariano Rivera & Luis Gonzalez. Well, what do you all think? Who got the better end of the deal? I agonized over this trade, going over numbers until I was blue in the face before finally clicking 'accept'. It hurts losing Vladimir.. oh man does it hurt, especially since I'm a huge Expo fan. It's like a shot through the heart. However, the lure of Pedro was simply too much and I have a bad feeling about Randy Johnson this year. His recent bad game seems to reinforce this. Sure, he'll recover and be a top tier pitcher but I expect his numbers to drop and Pedros to actually rise. From a fantasy viewpoint, I think my outfield can survive the loss of Guerrero. I mean, I still have Burnitz, Andruw and now Luis Gonzalez who is no slouch. I'm not big on Lawton so I didn't mind losing him. This is a pretty major trade though, don't you think? Leave it to Ren to propose the big deals. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
very interesting, but i think u gave up too much rj isnt that far from pedro and rocker is close to rivera..however u needed to get a better of then gonzales in return for vlad.. whatd do u think of this deal i did in my yahoo league last night i traded david wells, scott rolen, neifi perez, daryle ward for keith foulke, moises alou, eric chavez, mark grace i have alex s. gonzales(tor) at ss.. colon, kevin brown, hudson, wagner, rocker, foulke, matt morris/wade miller at p now damon, alou, berkman at of chavez instead of rolen at 3rd ------------------ How Sweet It Is! It's pretty close, but I've got to admit, Guerro is considered as one the top 3 outfielders if not the number 1 outfielder. That's tough to give up without much in return. Rivera may make up for it. It's really about Randy Johnson. If he performs I think you lost. If he bites I think you won. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
Luis Gonzalez is no slouch. It's not like I'm giving up Vlad for nothing. It's simply a downgrade at OF, just like Pedro & Rivera are upgrades at SP & RP. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy. [This message has been edited by fadeaway (edited April 10, 2001).]
Gonzalez is very good and consistent. I like the guy and he's always been much better than advertised. I even got him to sign a ball for me when he was an Auburn Astro. He played 3b and was part of a triple play that night (throwing errors led to it). I asked him, do you think you'll be replacing Caminiti at third, he said, "I don't think so. That guy is pretty good." ------------------ humble, but hungry.
