CD was on at 7 and made some significant revelations (or at least I thought they were significant). I put this in its own thread instead of Kick_Azz's because they seem to contradict what he said (Kick_Azz, Carol mentioned nothing of signing Piatkowski, Daniels OR trading Mobley):

    1) Did not say much about the Summer Leagues other than the fact that the Rockets were behind the other teams, game wise (Lakers had already played 5 games when they played us with only 2 practices under our belts). Was pleased with the rebounding but not the shooting.

    2) Did say that we will indeed be in Luxury Tax country this year.

    3) Because of 2), signing someone to the MLE would cost us about $10 MIL.

    4) Because of 3), he did not feel there were any players available that were worth spending that on.

    5) Say they have been in contact with Posey daily and are focusing their efforts on getting him re-signed.

    6) Pretty much dogged Horry (said he wasn't much of a friend??? )and said our situation was solid at the 3 and 4 and that basically, we have no need for him.

    7) Mentioned nothing about trades (specifically Mobley), although he wasn't asked about it directly (way to go Kenny Hand).

    8) Said they will look to sign a couple of players to the league minimum.

All and all a pretty short interview. I took most of these to mean that we are probably going to go into next season basically un-changed baring a major trade popping up out of nowwhere.

Newsflash: We're solid at the 3 and 4.

In other news, the Rockets can keep a grudge for a really long time.

    :D ... as solid a deydrated person's dung.

... as solid Glen Rice's knee joint when he tries to jump.

... as solid as the sound of Eggie's jumpshot drawing iron.

I wonder who we will sign for the league minimum. Good news is that Seattle and Phoenix haven't done much to improve themselves ,so we have a shot of making the playoffs.

If a huge, fat brick isn't solid, I don't know what is.

That's such a bunch of boloni... Nobody knows what the lux tax next year will be, but it will be higher than this year. Rockets have $51M comitted. It's blatantly obvious that Les wants to stay as far away as possible from lux tax territory and we are not signing anyone. Again, Les is a cheap b*stard!

If we are at 51Mil this year and add 4 Mil for Possey thats 55 Mil. Next year we loss 9Mil from Rice. I dont know what other free agents we have next year, but we could be under the cap next year. Which might give us all kinds of possibilities.

CD said exactly what I would expect a person in his position to say.

I felt CD was rambling about Horry and his words got garbled. I think Codell properly reported what CD said, but I'm not sure that CD meant to say something negative about Horry. He said that Horry was not a friend, but the tone of his voice made me think that he didn't mean to say "not."

I'll be honest, I really think just resigning Posey is not enough. We need to add a few more pieces. Either use the MLE to get some help in the backcourt or use Rice's expiring contract to obtain someone.

But some moves HAVE to be made. It's either now before training camp or before the trading deadline.

FYI, the Luxary Tax limit is set this year at 57 million (up from 53 million last year). If we are at 51 million committed then we have 6 million to spend. Perhaps Posey will take most of that money considering the MLE is around 5 million and Posey will probably be paid a bit more than the MLE.

Agreed. I don't think the playoffs are a lock at all. Logically, I think we take Utah's spot, but Golden State and maybe one of Denver/CLippers could challenge us. Ok, kind of joking on the last part.

I find it hard to believe that we would get JVG to coach our team, and enter a new arena, wary of the luxury tax. If JVG thought "person x will get us a bit further", then CD and Les would get him that player. Since that's not happening, I find it more likely that JVG just doesn't want to handicap himself in the future for the talent that's out there now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the league doesn't specify the exact tax threshold until after the season because it is based on revenues.

So folks are guessing, perhaps, that it is 57 mil but it might be less...or it might be more. It's only a guess (albeit educated).

I beleive that is why CD stated we are within reach and why Les doesn't want to take it right to the limit just in case it is less than anticipated.

All that being true, Les isn't a cheap b*stard. A James Posey type player is in fact NOT worth 10 mil.

One important detail that Codell's post did not state: CD said that they had made an offer to Posey, were really focused on signing Posey, AND HAD NOT MADE ANY OTHER OFFERS. He said that several times.

All in all, it was a pretty a pretty damn depressing phone interview. CD sounded defeated or tired or resigned. Maybe that's just the way he talks. I don't know. At this point, I am going to expect absolutely nothing and any signings will be a pleasant surprise.
