Well the season has come to an end and instead of thinking about all the painful stuff that’s happened, I just wanted to get some input on everyone’s single favorite Roxs moment from the past year. Personally, mine was sitting right behind the Roxs bench on Good Friday. Being there when the crowd erupted after we beat the Nuggs and our team clinched their 1st playoff berth in 5 years. That deafening roar is something I will never forget from this past year. Anyone else?
Being at the game vs Denver when we clinched the playoffs, came back from 15 down. Sweet game. The sparks - the moments when the Rockets looked like a future 1, 2 or 3 seed in the West. They went just as fast as they came though... not nearly enough of them either. But they've got the potential! that's what I have to keep telling myself...
Obviously, it was that 2 week stretch run where Yao could do no wrong. We thought Moses had come to lead us to the promised land. He was energetic, attacking the basket, rebounding hard, playing strong defense, getting good position, hitting his shots, etc. . We thought he had broken through to another level. Then, reality set in and Yao went back to being "tired", less composed, less energetic, semi-confused, lazy rebounding, soft defense, etc. . That was my worst moment....realizing this new Yao wasn't here to stay and that the old Yao(or Yao who didn't seem to have it together most of the 1st half of the season) had returned. If we would have had 2 week super Yao in the playoffs, then we would be in a lot better shape than we are now. Everyone always said how well Yao does is how well the team will do. Well, the results speak for themselves. He had a borderline average playoff series and we lost out. I'm not ragging on Yao as I know he was in his 2nd year still learning. We saw his potential for that 2 weeks and that led to false optimism...at least on my part. I wish I knew what went on inside Yao's head cause I would turn that 2 weeks into a superstar career. Surf
Since it is fresh on my mind. Boki coming in the playoffs and sparking the team a bit..mainly throwing the crap out of Malone's Shot and turning his back and walking away.
For me, that stretch gave me more hope for the future, if we get the same kind of average Yao, from the playoffs and the later portion of the season, a year or 2 from now then you can call it false optimism, for now there is still plenty of promise that can be fulfilled.
Barkely said "The Lakers will only go as far as Shaq takes them," and its the same for the Rox. Look at Yao's stats when we win vs. when we lose. It makes everything so clear. Yao looked absolutely pefect for those 2 weeks, wasnt' he averaging like 27ppg 14rpg, and won player of the week?
Hahaha, beat me to it. Oh well. For me had to be 1. Game 3 2. playoff clinching game vs. Denver 3. Blowing out the Timberwolves 4. my first OT game vs. Raptors
