Going to make the front office look a little foolish if minimum wage Sex Cannon is named the backup since they paid Mr. Out-Of-Endzone more $$$

i watched the game; it was business as usual for rex grossman - damn the consequences, i'm chucking it deep. you can get away with that when you're playing against a vanilla defense using 2nd and 3rd stringers but that crap won't fly in the regular season. i find any notion of grossman being a viable back-up silly.

orlovsky shows much greater potential; problem is: that potential may not come to the surface in time. he certainly has the arm but his decision-making, right now, is lacking. here's hoping schaub's injury comes later in the year.

I agree Sexy Rexy did throw it deep a more than significant amount of times in that game but I'm sure he knows he can't fathome attempting that against real game 1st stringers like the Titans, Colts, or Jags Ds.

His decision making shows to be far better than Dan's and for that reason I believe will upgrade him to 2nd string. Both have cannon arms but one has experience in the playoffs and years of being a starter under his belt. ;)

Thats why there was a line of teams waiting to sign him to be their backup QB when he hit the market!

Like I said in another thread, Kubiak saying he has confidence in either backups is basically him saying that if Schuab goes down, they are stone-cold ****ed.

I'd rather have Rex as the back up right now...I just think Dan needs more time before he can be effective in that role. So, maybe next year D.O. can be the primary back up, but for now, Im definitely more comfortable watching Rex launch one.

Yes I see that too. But really who wants to count on their back ups EVER. Here's to hoping we stay healthy and don't have to resort to Rexy or Dano. Besides there is a reason they are only back ups.

And that pic was pretty homo but jilarious! :D

Hmm, I dunno... maybe the Texans and the other 20 teams in the league who will have to play more than 1 QB during the regular season due to injuries.

I guess if I had to choose I'd go with Grossman right now. I think Dan Orlovsky has the potential to be a much better QB in time, but his decision making is still very suspect. So is Grossman's, but at least with the Sex Cannon you'll get some huge plays (like the one to Jacoby on Friday) along with the stupid bombs into double coverage.

**** it, I'm just going to hope Schaub stays on the field.

In typical fashion everyone is overreacting to a good preseason outing in week four against a bunch of scrubs, claiming Grossman should be the clear-cut backup.

Truth is this was all just practice, and we don't know who's going to perform better in the real situation. I think it's foolish to expect Orlovsky to come in and perform at Sage's level like everyone seems to expect him to. They brought him in to develop him and mold him into a quality backup/fringe starter, just like what happened with Sage.

Agreed with Ric- we'll be much better off if Schaub gets injured later in the year than earlier (not that we can really afford to lose him either way).

Grossman was named the #2 by Kubiak this morning.

Yeah, Grossman threw a couple nice passes against some guys who turned in their playbooks a few days later, Orlovsky might be fine if Andre Johnson gets open 90% of the time and faces no double coverage.

Schaub is pretty damn good at spreading the rock around, he needs to stay healthy. I heard some moron on the Texans TV special show with Charlie Palillo say that Grossman is the best QB on the team right now, including Schaub just because Grossman got his team to the Super Bowl.

I don't know how Charlie P kept from laughing uncontrolably.

You still don't understand what I'm saying, of course you want you're back up to be ready if the time comes but who here is counting on Schaub getting hurt and.... wait.... damn it.

I really hope we don't see either QB's get action this year. I just don't think we should bank on our back up being a +.500 player given the opportunity cause really how often does that happen?

Matt Cassell doesn't count cause any QB can work wonders with Moss, Welker, and that system.

you're apparently not intimately familiar with the sex cannon...

apparently, that group includes our head coach. we, of course, have no idea how they're performing on a daily basis in practice, how quickly they're picking up the offense and responding to coaching...

they must be plenty disappointed in orlovsky right now to think grossman is the superior plan b. he's awful.

Why are you subtlety insinuating that Schaub eventually getting injured this season is inevitable?

Oh, that’s right. Because it is.

    Exactly my reasoning.

If they think Grossman is their best option at backup right now, they are admitting Orlovsky is not anywhere near ready to take over, and they're scared to death of Schaub getting injured.

Will we see Slaton / Brown get 60 carries vs the Jets? :p

Everyone in the media and here act like it's an easy decision and Rex should automatically be the backup. Kubiak took time and evaluated the game and made a decision based on substance...I wouldn't say he overreacted to Rex's performance. I'd be willing to bet that Orlovsky will be the #2 on a regular basis by week 8 at the latest.

You're right though, I think they did expect a little more from Dan even early on.

That would be nice seeing I have Slaton on a few of my fantasy teams.

I don't see why we don't invest in a young drafted QB with potential. There's no need to rush anyone along with Schaub trying to stabalize himself as an elite QB.

Brink is not going to be a replacement for Schaub after he finally starts giving out for good. I predict that will happen in this next years draft. If not we can always pick up VY in FA next year........... right. ;)

After all he does want to come back to Houston. :D

I wouldn't say that, they actually look smart for picking up rex on the cheap. can't believe that guy was just out there with no interest
