"because yao is so tall that sometimes he blocks the guards' sights to the basket when they shoot." - from a chinese YOH.

Because they don't practice open jumpers.

I've said many many times before they need to shoot 1000 jumpers a day and if they have not made any progress in 3 months, JVG needs to step that up to 2000 a day. And if that doesnt work they need to practice till there arm falls off so we can pick up the insurance money :) And use that toward another shooter.

    They need to frigin practice....

The worst backcourt in the NBA.

I hope the draft and free agency can help us find a quality PG, solid SG, and a bring-your-A-game-everyday PF.

For this season, we ended up w/ a street baller - no NBA skills, geriatric SG, 1 dimension (only offense, no defense) crap of Juwan and bust of the year, No-Show Swift.

I think it has to do with two factors:
    1) The fact that they focus so much of their energy and mentality on defense that when it comes to shooting they just don't have the legs and focus.
    2) The guards are all streaky shooters, none of them are known for their shooting (D. Wesley is a perfect example, dude can go through stretches where he makes a sick amount of threes and then tails off and couldn't hit one if his life depended on it).

I agree with everything except Rafer does have some very good NBA skills. Our SG is not only geriatric but is 6'1, and your comments on JH and Stro are dead on the money.

The reason our guards can't shoot is because they aren't very good. It has nothing to do with playing hard defense. Tough defense doesn't seem to stop Kobe or Bruce Bowen from drilling 3s. I whined all last summer about it, but I still can't believe Wesley remained our starting SG this year and Sura would have stayed on as the starting PG if not for his injuries. And to think our major offseason move was to get the complete bust known as Stromile Swift.

Last summer, I said our needs (in order) were: SG, PG, then PF. This summer it changes to: SG, PF and PG. The new PG could be a solid backup. If they blow this summer on another wild goose chase at PF, CD & JVG must be canned. We had better get a major upgrade at SG before anything else or this team is spinning it's wheels.

Yes most of our guards are streaky shooters, but I beg to disagree with you: Wesley is *the* exception. He's the most consistent shooter we have. He struggled at the beginning of the season for two reasons: he was coming off surgery, and was being forced to play PG which is completely unnatural for him. He struggled in the past few weeks because of injury. In the period between those two, he was hitting well over 40% from behind the arc. On a fairly consistent basis. This is basically what he did last year, consistently made defenses pay for doubleteaming T-Mac/Yao. If you're looking for an example of a streaky shooter, look at Rafer. Not David.

Kobe is the most overrated defender in NBA history. He gets away with so much it is ridiculous. Watch him closely when he is playing D. Watch how he swings away at the ball drawing contact with his man on many occasions & reaches around the offensive player yet never gets into foul trouble.

Bruce Bowen D's the hell out of people but does not shoot many shots. He only shoots occasionally and its usually when he is wide open in the corner.

Last season he went through stretches where he couldn't hit the broad side of a barn also, but it wasn't as obvious and did not hurt the team as bad b/c they had a healthy T-Mac, to along with Jon B, Sura, and Mike James who more than made up for it.
