I'm sure this has been mentioned many times on this board, so I apologize in advance.... How realistic is it? Any word on how much he'll want, whether Chicago could match, etc... Being reasonable, if I could have one young guy to put next to Yao, I think it'd be Chandler- but Sean May wouldn't be a bad consolation prize...
May can box out and board and have really nice post game going. Imagine Yao and May, one at each side of the court down low, little two man game.
Young 7-footer who rebounds and defends like an animal? Chicago will match unless someone waaay overpays. And the Rockets won't be that someone.
This is just a rumor and my just be gm rhetoric. Here is a quote from the bulls gm john paxson saying Tyson Chandler is not going anywere. Bulls Vice President John Paxson said he plans to match any outside offers for rookie guard Chris Duhon and fourth-year big men Tyson Chandler and Eddy Curry. All will become restricted free agents July 1. "If anybody wants to waste their time making offer sheets, they can go right ahead," Paxson said. "But no way is anybody going to steal these players from us. We intend to match whatever offer they get."
The Rox have a "so you're telling me there's a chance" at landing Chandler. Too bad, because with his age, athleticism, toughness, and rebounding prowess, he'd be the best complimentary PF to stick next to Yao.
if you can get chandler for $6 million or less he's a great pick up but someone will pay him big money for just 8 to 9 ppg. rockets won't do that so i don't see him in a rockets uni.
There is virtually no chance for him. Chicago would be dancing in the street if they got an oppertunnity to match an MLE offer sheet from Chandler.
If he is smart he signs a massive ONE year deal with someone and thus becomes an unrestricted FA at the end of it. DD
Rox can offer him something Chicago can't. A chance at the championship. There are only a handful of contenders and Rockets have a good chance of being one of the few.
Exactly! That is IF he actually wants to be free after one more season to go to the team he likes. And from what I heard, he has spoken well of Yao and said he has known him from a while back when they were both teenagers (met a few times I think). What we need the MOST in a PF is rebounding and defense, and Chandler is the best young player in the league today that can do both very, very well. His scoring is still a work in progress, but imagine an even better version of Cato playing on THIS year's squad, the Mavs wouldn't have had a chance
So I guess it's probably a no go on Chandler. But getting back to Sean May, I think he'd be great next to Yao. I don't know how many of you have watched May over the last three years, but I have, and I'd be ecsatic at the possibilities of a high-low attack with Yao feeding May down low from the high post. With Yao's passing skills(and height) and Sean May's incredible hands and ability operate on either shoulder, it would be quite a one-two in the post. He's not the shotblocker anyone would like to have at the 4, but he is a very good rebounder, which is what we all want next to Yao. Having said all this, I'm sure May's going in the top ten following personal workouts(if he isn't there already). We'd have to pull some major %$^&* to be able to move up and get him.
Totaly agree with yu on May. I would also add that he can add some inside scoring when Yao is out so as not to depend on Tracy creating his own shot. Juwan does this on occasions but he doesnt bring the rebounding that May does. Plus the guy is all heart, I mean he could be that vocal in your face leader of the future. In the vein of Mario Ellie. Alas I doubt he's gonna be available @ 24, so unless we trade up I dont see him dropping.
If we just got somebody who could box out and rebound, I'm telling ya, I'd be happy. Thrilled. If that's all we accopmlished in the offseason, I'd be happy. Improving other areas would be nice, but to me, that's the big weak spot. So many times, Yao goes over to help on defense and there's nobodty there to stop Josh Howard or whoever from going to the bucket. A defensive mided 4 would be such an asset to this team.
It's gonna come down to money (obviously). The Bulls said they are going to match any offer and they have some money to spend on him and Curry. We're not going to be able to outbid Chicago, but a S&T is always possible. I'm sure the Bulls would rather deal Chandler and get something in return than just let him walk.
I just wonder if a team threw 15 million a year or above type of contract to Chandler, would the Bulls still match it (and what team would be stupid enough to offer that to Chandler). The ONLY way we have a chance at Chandler is if Yao or Tracy (or both) do the Shaq/GM routine by calling him and promising the grass is greener over here and a ring is more possible over here then the Bulls, so that the Rox can offer that one year deal, the Bulls match it but Chandler leaves as an unrestricted FA after that one year. But then again, the Bulls will see the writing on the wall and trade him for the best deal they can find before the trade deadline. I don't think they want our expiring contracts, but then Chandler can leak out that whoever trades for him, will only get him for one year so maybe the Bulls will be forced to deal with us as other teams will be scared off. But these are big ifs, none moreso then IF Chandler really wants to be here. I think he just wants the money, no matter where it is. Yao, Tracy...start working those phones...(ok, I know Yao ain't certainly calling anyone, but I can see Tracy casually putting the fishing line out there).
