I'm in a fairly new relationship, and like all the others, this (wonderful and beautiful) girl is now in the process of being subjected to Dallas' famous "Rocket Torture." I have yet to meet a girl that is any where near the fan I am. When I always play Bone or Tool in my car, I can tell she's already getting annoyed. When I talk about stats from '96-'97 with more enthusiasm than a kid on his first day of school, she thinks I'm a weirdo, I know it. But this is the pattern of all my significant relationships. I let them in on my fanatic weird side and they grow tolerant and eventually think it's one of my "cutest" attributes. It's not a one way street either. I can't wait until hearing Dave Matthews every time I get in her car seems "cute" to me (nothing against DMB, RM95 - Dave's a genius) because it doesn't really right now. But the point of this whole thread is that, since I know most people here have shared this "Rocket Torture" experience, what would you rather have: 1) A girl/guy who shared your passion for the things you are a fanatic of... or, 2) A girl/guy like mine that you have to grow with in order to achieve a medium of sorts. I wouldn't change my girl at all. That would take all the fun out of the relationship. The point is no two people are exactly alike but they can still be perfect for one another after a little growth. Just look at you grandparents (if they're still married). Those guys are just one person in two bodies almost. That's what I would rather have. You guys?
My wife isn't too fond of basketball but tolerates it. She'll listen politely when I talk about the Rockets, though she refuses to memorize all the names once the rosters are set. But, it is probably healthier for me that I have someone to curb my enthusiasm and not let me sink too deeply into basketball world. Lord knows this site isn't helping in that regard. Btw, I know a woman who is a huge sports fan -- especially football and basketball. Somehow, this doesn't seem to have given her any advantages in her hunt for a husband. I wonder if there is something about a woman who is especially knowledgable and enthused about sports that actually repels men.
