It's that special time of year where I post about a show that I don't watch anymore just so I can rag on it again. The open to the premiere episode shows this to be the least appealing cast ever. I'm going to go out on a limb again to say this season will including drinking, nudity, fights and homosexuality. And one of the girls is from Friendswood. Btw, Real World 23 is being shot in DC. <embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:videolist:mtv.com:1614056" width="512" height="319" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="configParams=id%3D1614056%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideolist%3Amtv.com%3A1614056%26startUri={startUri}" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed><div style="margin:0;text-align:center;width:500px;font-family:Arial,sans-serif;font-size:12px;"><a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/dyn/rw_cancun/series.jhtml" style="color:#439CD8;" target="_blank">Real World 22 Cancun</a> - <a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/" style="color:#439CD8;" target="_blank">MTV Shows</a></div>
I got sucked into watching the first episode the other day. I actually kinda like this cast so far. The two girls who are already conspiring together seem like they may become super annoying though. I sometimes think the location of the show is sometimes more important than the cast. I was just getting tired of them filming in big cities, I think. A tropical location is a nice change of pace. I'll probably watch for a few more episodes until it gets boring to me - which always seems to happen nowadays after ~4 episodes in.
Actually this is the first season I've watched since like the one in Seattle, whichever that one was. The location makes this one really interesting.
Until they started talking. The one gal sure is proud of her "promise piercing". How long before that is yanked out of her finger?
I used to actually watch the Real World way back when it first began. The first few seasons were actually interesting shows because it wasn't about everyone looking like a cover model, getting drunk, sleeping around, or getting in fights. It wasn't even about having to start a business or any of the crappy ideas they've come up with over the years. In the beginning it actually was about 7 people from different walks of life being thrown together and forced to deal with all the personalities, racial backgrounds, and religious beliefs. People weren't there to become "reality tv stars" and live off of that for the rest of their lives like we see now. I know some people just love the drama, but I'd much rather see a legitimate social experiment like they had going in the beginning. Although I guess the downfall was inevitable as soon as people saw how they could become "celebrities" by getting on the show. It was bound to end up like this. My favorite season was San Francisco, which I believe was probably the last season that the show felt "real" to me. I don't remember exactly, but I think I stopped caring after Boston, or Miami...whichever came second.
I take back what I said. I went back and watched the entire episode...this show has some promise. Go to the last segment to see what the rest of the season has in store.
The first coupe of seasons were actually interesting social experiments. Now, its just a bunch of desperate-for-attention kids who would do anything to be on TV. The Real World, and MTV in general is crap. They even have that "Pregnant at 16" show now. Can you imagine all the kids who'll try to get pregnant just to be on that show?
