http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28281454/ We bought an artificial Christmas tree this year because it would save us money and we don't have kids yet so we'll wait until we have kids to buy a real tree. We're also getting a puppy so I don't want him to choke on pine needles. =) However, there is nothing like a Christmas with pine smell in the house. =) Do you have a real or artificial Christmas tree?
Silicone? The past two years I've had real, but it's a pain in the arse to clean up...I have a huge artificial tree but its a pain in the arse to lug downstairs so last night I bought a smaller one about 6.5' tall... I do agree the real one is better... On a side note, went to Barnes and Noble last night to buy co-worker gifts and they had a table for gift wrapping...just donate and they wrap your gifts...they told me I could bring gifts from home which I'll gladly do this weekend...I hate wrapping gifts...
Bought a fake tree with lights. I used to only buy real ones because of the smell. I didnt know about dogs and pine needles..........I may get a real one now.
Not just fake, but pre-lit! Though my lights are ceasing to "lit" so now it's more of a fake tree with bulbs, but I have to string lights around it anyway.
I wanted real, but fake pre-lit is the way to go. When you consider the cost, it's not even close. Depending on the size, the 2 are not that far off on cost when you figure in lights, a stand, watering, the mess, and the disposal of a real tree. I just replaced our last one of 5 years that I bought for $100.
i "knew" that real trees would win in a landslide but i clicked to view the poll results anyway. boy, i just don't even see the point of a fake tree. if you took an environmental stance then i could understand the rationale, and i guess being allergic is an issue, but damn.
Definitely real! I don't have allergies though so I understand the poll results. I had no idea so many people were allergic to that wonderful smell. Picking them out is fun (although we had one shipped from Vermont this year). Cutting the bottom off gives you that rare suburban lumberjack feeling. You can put branches in your car for a nice natural air freshener. Another good poll would be "How long do you keep you tree up?" We always kept it up until well after New Years. I think the homeowners association has to tell us that Christmas is over and to take everything down. Them and their stupid War on Christmas.
Using a live, Norfolk pine this year. Needed something small, and I like them as house plants year round anyhow.
Every year we load the kids up and head to the mountains to seek out that perfect tree. we never find it, but we have a lot of fun bouncing around in the snow and trying to tie the imperfect tree we selected to the roof and get back home safely. This year we got an 8 ft. Douglas Fir that's beautiful on three sides. It's fun for the family, you reduce the fire risk in the woods, it makes the house smell good for a few weeks, you can chip it for mulch when the holidays are over, and you don't have a huge box taking up space in your storage area all year. (I realize most of you folks don't have the option of simply driving to a mountain, so it probably makes sense to have an artificial in Texas... the trees on the lots probably dry out quickly.)
